The Wynar case is a perfect example of the greatest exception to our right to free speech: when it is intended to incite violence. Wynar’s messages were filled with threats, weapons, and references to previous school shootings. Regardless of his intentions, he spoke strongly in clear support of violence in the school environment and made threats of inciting that violence himself, which easily could have encouraged other students to take that step from words to reality. In my opinion, regardless of his age or the location or timing of the messages, Wynar engaged in conduct deserving of immediate response from the authorities in his life.
