Grantley Adams International Airport
Description: 1. I took this picture on the Island of Barbados.
2. The person that is being commemorated in this picture is the First Prime Minister of Barbados, Grantley Herbert Adams. He took office in February of 1953 & left office in April of 1958. He is one of Barbados' heroic figures. The airport's original name was Seawell Airport until it honored the first prime minister and was named Grantley Adams International Airport. It is located in Seawell, Christ Church (hence the original name).
3. I had never heard of this airport until this past Summer. My connecting flight landed me there for a while where I had time and was able to walk around and admire the beauty of this pretty big airport. Grantley Herbert Adams is said to have paved the path for Barbados' Independence from Britain. He worked extremely hard to better the social and political aspects of Barbados and often encouraged the working people to seek a better life since it was not so safe back then. He was also an activist and 'national hero'.
