Throughout the class so far has anyone noticed something similiar in mostl the readings we read? There is some sort of external struggle or interaction between the protaganist and her surrondings to the point when it suffocates them or makes them feel isolated? The same can also be said for their social situations. What we went over in our last class lightly touching the topic of the protaginist of “Summer” being an outcast made me think about this. For example, in “Ghosts and Empties” the protaganists feels her marriage (social situation) has changed her into a person she despises yelling, being irate and just someone that she feels brings more negativity than positivity because of this shift she feels suffocated and takes refugee in her walks, also Connie from “where are you going, where have you been?” feels isolated because of her being tucked far away in some boring American suburb and doing anything to get some form of excitement Another example can be “Summer” we start to see how the protagonist is an outcast for not being born in the town she lives in. These are some examples that stood out to me when reading and analyzing these stories during class.
How does anyone else feel about this?
