Course Description

Using local communities as a ‘laboratory’, this learning community looks at how the challenges of job creation, economic development, the minimum wage and income inequality are reflected in the real world of the local economy. In this learning community, student community-based research focuses on developing a knowledge of the economic make up of the local communities in which they live or work. Student observations are documented through photographs, writing, and blog posts with the goal of making connections between the findings of community-based research and local labor market and income data.
