Rules of thumb
Description: I "thumbed" through the book as suggested by Professor Mason and found an interesting chapter. Before reading the chapter on "Recognizing Cliches" In layman's terms cliches are words or phrases that are played out, tired, overused. commonly used idioms like "Raining cats and dogs", "A drop in the bucket" or "A piece of cake" should be avoided in essays. Coincidentally the title of the book "Rule of thumb" is a cliches as well.The title of the book can be overlooked as a cliche and considered a double entendre. In any case, I don't think avoiding cliches should be a rule of thumb, I think it should be a suggestion.
