Session: Tuesday, March 4th, 2025 (LAB TIME)

Project 2 Type/Lettering

Step by Step:

  • Trim the 3 Bristol pad into 7×7 using the cutting board in class, or you can use an Xacto knife if you are cutting your Bristol pad in your own time. (REMEMBER, YOU NEED A CUTTING BOARD UNDER THE BRISTOL PAD TO CUT.)
  • Trace the back side of the outline print, then place the back side to the Bristol pad to retrace the outline so the imprints transfer to the Bristol pad.
  • Use Thin sketch pens to outline the squares on the Bristol pad.
  • Ink using brushes according to your negative and positive shapes print.

Materials Needed:

  1. Bristol Pad (3 Bristol pads in total needed for this project).
  2. Micron pens or any other thin sketch pen. You have to outline the squares.
  3. Brushes – Brings thin to medium size brushes
  4. Ruler
  5. Tracing paper if you are using this to transfer.
  6. Use masking Tape to make sure your Bristol pad does not move when tracing.

Homework: Finish up inking and take photos of the process for this project. Upload to Openlab before Friday’s Class.

Session: Friday, March 7th, 2025

  1. Critique day/Presentation – Place your finished 3 grids on the tables as you arrive on Friday. We will take a look at everyone’s work and give feedback.
  2. When critiquing, use design terminology to give feedback.

Lecture

Introduction to Project 3 – 3D Project (Presentation)

Research Cube Box with Typography on it. You can choose from your ligature from Project 2 or render new letterforms. It could be word in ligatures form.

Class Activity:

• Draw the outline below on your sketch book and make multiple placement of the ligatures. (Do not use computer yet)

Homework:

Finish up the Sketches and bring all the materials for next week’s class
