Week 2 Lesson Plan

Session 1: Tuesday 02/04/2025
Lecture

Visual Communication disciplines are reviewed; cultural image and icon differences are discussed; history of icon usage.

• Begin development of sketches in black-and-white on a computer. 

Session 1: Class Activity

• Using the Image Template, pick 6 ideas from grid and do 6 treatments from the brainstormed images in black and white Illustrator. Breakdown your idea into simplified Icons as seen in image below.
• Make a PDF and upload it to the your Draft Openlab post
• Critique in the following session Using the template below, develop your icon

Session 2: Friday 02/07/2025

• Images are rendered in color.
• Choosing the right color palette is very important.

Specifically: Critique of the developed black-and-white images and their suitability as icons in their reduced form.

Technical

• Production skills: resolution, file naming conventions, digital contact sheets
  • File Naming Conventions: Firstname_Lastname_Project_1_Icon
    • File Type: Upload PDF to Openlab in File Section

Preparation 

• Finish up developed icons and review computer drawing skills. Use the Coolers or Adobe color to come up with a Color Palette.

Session 2 Class Activity:

Pick 1 Idea and assemble a color chart/palette for the 6 image sets and apply them to the image treatments (Illustrator)

Session 2 Homework:

• Assemble a color chart for the image sets and apply them to the
  image treatments
• Improve drawing skills, creating the reduced image for mobile applications
• Add color to the miniature images to conform to the color program developed.
