  • How to build a ligature or the 27th letter using illustration software and the vector drawing tool.

Preparation 

  • Collect examples of type as used in logos and branding.
  • Begin to draw, based on the type specimens printed, 100 renditions of ligatures OR 100 possible renditions of the 27th letter of the alphabet.

Session 2: Tuesday, February 25th, 2025

  • Make 3 LIGATURES and don’t change the elements when placing them in grid. Use the ligature as finalized shape to work around the grid.

Session 2: In-Class Activity

  • Using the supplied files of the fonts given, construct three ligatures or redraw three renditions of your 27th letter of the alphabet on the computer.
  • Make 9 treatments for each of the three, put them in the Type/Lettering template below, print them, and upload the digital version for critique.
  • The Ligature file below is the same as above, just at a higher resolution.
