Reflection, Park Lane Site Visit

The most significant information I learned while I was at Park Lane was the guest speakers throughout the tour sharing information and requirements of their job and what they each specifically do according to their job title. The on that peaked my interest the most was the HR personnel. Her requirements in the industry I believe is one of the most important jobs in the industry. Usually, HR helps each personnel in the industry in overseeing various aspects of employment, such as compliance with labor law and employment standards, administration of employee benefits, and some aspects of recruitment and dismissal. Which is why I personally enjoyed her view of her job the most.

I believe that in order to be able to work in the Hotel luxury industry, you need to have passion for the job and travel lifestyle, understanding of business, being able to deliver, because I believe it is essential to communicate the value to the consumer. Use Social Media To Drive Sales, and subscribe to Trade Magazines & Online Newsletters. With these aspects, I believe one will have a greater understanding of the Hotel industry and will be able to do a job well done.

Park Lane Reflection and Scavenger Hunt

During the visit to the Park Lane I learned a lot and I appreciate the time the industry leaders provided to us. I will continue this network by sending thank you notes to each person I met and to also send messages to them when I find interesting material to share. Using LinkIn and Instagram would be a valuable way to stay connected.

There was much I liked at the Park Lane. First and foremost is their generosity is providing service not only to their guests but to the future leaders of our industry, our students. The hotel was at 100% occupancy and meeting rooms were in use but still, the heads of many departments provided us with their time and their knowledge. I learned about how they can generate revenue from a room that might not otherwise be used (the Helmsely Suite) and how choosing one guest to impress each day can help ensure a deeper sense of guest satisfaction. Guest satisfaction is important to many of their stake holders as expressed by the Hotel General Manager, Andrew,

As for the scavenger hunt. I heard many words and took the following photos. I will leave you to define the words you heard.

Executive Committee

ADR

OTA

Forecast (two types!)

occupancy (their average is at the peak of the industry)

Park Lane Site Visit Reflection

I hope you found as much value in the Site Visit of the Park Lane as I did. Please share with your classmates what you learned by answering two of the following selection of questions.

How much did you know about the luxury hotel market before the site visit?
In what way do you believe you need to prepare for a career in the luxury hotel market?
How did you feel about going to The Park Lane?
What did you like/dislike about our site visit to The Park Lane?
What was the most significant information you learned while on the site visit?
Did you feel prepared for what you experienced during the site visit?
If you had a chance to meet the speakers again what would you tell them about yourself?
What one thing influenced your desire to work/or not to work in this industry?
What did you learn?

To answer the two questions of your choice, 1) create a blog post,  2) include the questions you are answering,  3) write a reflection that is about 50-75 words and  4) choose the category “The Park Lane, Site Visit”. The reflection is due before our next class session. It would be useful to also respond to your classmate’s posts.
