I learned about this internship opportunity for a 2D Design Intern in Environmental Graphics at a design studio in Brooklyn. The position interested me because the studio works on museum, exhibition, and cultural design projects. The internship also matched my experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, image editing, layout design, and preparing graphics for production. I wanted to gain more experience working on real environmental design projects outside the classroom. To apply, I contacted the studio by email and submitted my résumé and portfolio. During the application process, I discussed my design background, software skills, availability, and interest in exhibition and environmental graphic design.
The internship supervisor holds a leadership and design role within the studio. During our communication, we discussed the type of work I could help with, including preparing large-format graphics, editing and resizing images, separating artwork into panels, and organizing files for fabrication. I was also asked about my experience using Adobe design software and my ability to follow directions and complete revisions.
After the studio reviewed my work and communicated with me about the position, I received the internship offer. I then completed the required internship agreement and company information forms for my COMD 4900 course. I was excited to accept because the position provided an opportunity to improve my technical skills while learning about professional museum and exhibition design.
