Senior Project Abstracts, due 11/15

Please add your Senior Project abstract (idea) as a comment to this post by Tuesday night.

It must NOT Be a link, it should be the actual sentence, thank you.

Example:
The conversation around climate change is filled with guilt and fear. The problem is that according to psychology, guilt and fear make us withdraw from a situation. Using social competition, which is a proven motivator in psychology, to get people to act on climate change. I want to implement a campaign that is a month-long challenge in which participants reduce and track their carbon footprint while being able to see how they compare to others.

Above is ALL that is needed for the statement.

In the upcoming weeks, you will use this statement and feedback to create a research paper, that is fueled by research and potential outcome. This is what you can hand to your advisor.

The problem from the above statement is: People do not deal with climate change conversations because of guilt and fear.

Insight: The youth/millennials tend to enjoy competitions via social media.

Concept: Create a month-long social media campaign to get people motivated to reduce their carbon footprint.

My senior project will be on the brand known as Vimto. Vimto is a soft drink that was first created out in Manchester England where the inventor by the name John Nichols. It is popular among that area of the world and in the Arabian Peninsula is often used as a a beverage of choice for Iftar after the fasting of Ramadan. What i want to do with this brand is create an ad promoting it more in the United States, so it can also be a replacement for certain other soft drink brands since it isn’t popular here.

With technology advancing smartphones have evidently change the world of photography. I want to create a photography app for people who struggles with perfecting photos on their smartphones . This app will be created to guide and teach people how to strengthen their photographic skills and suggest ways to ways to utilize proper use of angles/composition, an implementation of an AI detector that will tell when there is good/bad lighting for best photographic exposure, and provide iconic/popular pin point locations for best photographic scenery across the city.

    Insight

    • 91% of people take photos with smartphones vs digital cameras(7%) tablets (3%)
    • When buying a new smartphone 86% people commonly inquire about camera quality.
    • People find it hard to find locations when taking photos.
    • People struggle with over + under exposure photos
    • Blurry photos from shaken camera. People have hard times getting their camera to be in focus by maintaining a steady capture.

(How to fix this ? An auto focus assist will help users still capture photos precisely to counter slight hand movement .

I will create a photography app that will enhance smartphone users photographic skills and experience by implementing special features that will aid their disadvantages. I will advertise this app across social media channels and subway platforms.

Since Im already taking senior project class, I was told to build my resume, website or portfolio stronger. I am taking portfolio class right now and I need to work on building my website strong, as there are lot of holes to cover. So far my resume looks good but I want to focus on that too.

Recently we have seen more restrictions to women’s rights due to Roe v Wane and some restrictions to prevent pregnancy which also affects the way that Sex education is taught in school. Only 29 states in the U.S. mandate sex education and in April 2022, seven states in the South prohibited educators to talk about LGBTQ+ identities and relationships which makes it harder for LGBTQ+ youth to learn about how to prevent sexually transmitted disease. Teens don’t always feel comfortable talking to adults about sex education especially if its in person, privacy is important since some teens might feel uncomfortable discussing about their own sexual experiences. I want to create an app in which teens can learn about pregnancy prevention, sex habits, consent and can talk privately to experts to learn about their bodies for free.

Opioid abuse is a worldwide problem In 2019, an estimated 10.1 million people aged 12 or older misused opioids in the past year. Specifically, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers and 745,000 people used heroin. The issue here is there are way too many illegal drugs flowing across networks around the world, and that’s something we can’t do anything about, however what we can do, is to make the drug Narcan a potentially lifesaving drug, available for everybody and to wildly distribute it to many people across the world at no cost. Something so small and can save lives should cost nothing.

Being from a Caribbean family I have many family members who come to the US for a new life it takes them a while to get accustomed to their new life. I want to find a way so they can have an easier time adjusting to their new social lifestyle. Showing newcomers some suggested ways that they should wear clothes, talk, or some activities they should get into. This is so that they can break the ice of just living in their own culture to be able to able adapt it to their own as well.

PTSD and trauma at a young age for boys can lead them on a detrimental path. Without the right tools or foundation, these deep-rooted emotions will improperly guide their every step on the path to adulthood. Helplines and therapy services can be very intimidating or even counterproductive if the individual and his family are not well informed about the significance of these options. I want to create a more easily accessible and interactive app that brings young boys suffering from trauma connected with professional trauma specialists, therapists, and other boys like them. The app will connect the individual with someone that best matches their profile for more transparency, trust, and understanding.

A 2020 Intuit Survey of at least 1,500 people found that more than 60% didn’t know how much money they spent the previous month.

For many, the idea of budgeting can evoke feelings of stress and scarcity. The central issue is that much like dieting, budgeting can encourage a restrictive mindset due to its requirement of setting limits on one’s spending. Even for those who do make the effort to budget, an inconsistent income, monthly fluctuations in spending, and confusing financial jargon can leave them feeling intimidated and worse off than when they started. A failure to stick to a budget can often feel like a reflection of one’s character.

In the age of the smartphone, personal finances are increasingly handle via mobile devices. To remedy the pain points people have around budgeting, I want to build an app that removes the confusing financial jargon and places focus on needs of people with low and inconsistent incomes.

Nowadays, the Internet has created a global platform for sharing information and formed a new communication environment. And in the huge amount of information gathered on the Internet, how much is true and false. Whether people who exist on the Internet have enough ability to distinguish true and false information. Moreover, the cost of producing false information is very low. A short video, a piece of text or a picture is enough to become a material for creating false information. And I use illustrations to express the harm of fake news to people, hoping to remind people not to believe any information easily 100%.

There are over 100 million Americans with diet restrictions and food allergies that can’t find safe places to eat. This is a problem that also effects me. Because of this, they are not able to enjoy meals at restaurants with their friends and family. I want to create an app that can help people find places that serve dishes according to their dietary restrictions. Not only that, people with the same or similar restrictions can leave reviews and ratings of the food so you are able to gage the quality of the restaurant and menu items.

Food insecurity is a problem which impacts people from all walks of life, however, the problem is most prevalent among the disabled. There are 61 million disabled adults in the United States, 13% of which have a mobility based disability which may keep them from working enough hours to cover living expenses or worst keeps them homebound. Being disabled leads to increased food security because often the disabled often pay for extra equipment or expensive medicines. Disabled people frequently fall between the gaps of SSI and SSDI. This has a side effect of increasing food insecurity among children. In an attempt to fight food insecurity for these mobility disabled people as well as children I would like to make an app which allows mobility disabled people to order healthy prepared meals, fruit, vegetables, and dry goods at no cost to them.

Lately, the environment has been taking a toll for the worse. From deforestation, to air pollution, the environment has been encountering many problems to the point our world will soon be unsafe and dangerous for any life forms to survive. To make matters worse, not many people are aware enough about how severe these issues are to the enviroment. To bring awareness, I will develop a short animated film that conveys the severity of these environmental issues and how one can help improve it. The short film wll have a bit of a mythical and fantasical twist.

People love traveling the world but at times they don’t want to travel alone. This fear prevents a lot of people from enjoying a nice vacation. Because of this, they miss out on going out into the world and exploring it. Many people love to have a place where they can get information about places to go and things to do like Instagram and this sparks an interest in them and motivates them to travel, but it is not until they realize there is no one to travel with. To help people with this issue I want to create an app that can facilitate all the tools a person might need to be able to enjoy a pleasant solo travel experience.

With society being more and more chair bound, the foundation of sitting for longer period of time is becoming a concern. The posture for children and adults aren’t ideal, as we aren’t intended to sit for long period of time due to evolution. Firm believer that people are more willing to do prolong their posture if there are signs and awareness about this issue. By creating labels such as stickers, badges and physical merch to remind / motivate people to be more mindful of their postures.

There are many small traditional restaurants that are stuck in the past because the only way to order food was to physically go to the restaurant or order through the telephone. My family owns three small but very old Chinese-Latino fusion restaurants (One currently in operation, the other two on standby or pause due covid and other motives) and they are stuck in the 90s. They don’t have a website, mobile application, or social media presence because they are not very familiar with technology and the evolution of the ways to order food. They think that it is very complex to modernize the way their businesses work.

I want to focus on one restaurant by modernizing and rebranding the business by launching an app where people can order food through an app and start to have a presence on social media.

People are making choices and decisions almost every moment. I believe many people have encountered difficulties in choosing. The problem is making the decision of what we/I going to eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner. It is the problem that most headaches and appear in our daily life. This choice or behavior often occurs in life. So when people are worried about what to eat, they need something to help them make choices. I want to create a brand and launch various things that can help people make decisions. It can be a physical product or digital (app).

Some phone carrier customer service departments can be very crappy. Aside from that being just being about dropped calls, no wifi and other cell phone related issues. For that fact, I’ll be talking about why these issues occur and how solutions can be met to fix these problems. By creating an app to solve them.

    • joseph asimeng

I’ll be highlighting how and why cell phone company, customer service is crappy. As well as giving some stories about it. That can serve as erxamples, to fix the issue, all in a form of creating an app.*^

I’ll be highlighting how and why cell phone company, customer service is crappy. It could be because the customers didn’t pay their phone bill on time. Whether it’s once or frequently. Some things that the employees knew about the customers didn’t realize at first, just to show them.

Probably wifi issues or any other problem between the customers and the workers that can cause this type of thing to occur.

As well as giving some stories about it. That can serve as examples, to fix the issue, all in a form of creating an app.*^
