To-Do Before Class

  • Purchase sketching supplies and drafting supplies as listed here. ADDITION — you will need some method of measuring. This can be a free app for your phone, or a 12′ or 25′ tape measure.

Sketching Assignment:

  • Watch the Video we viewed in class; complete or redraw your sketch of a building from last week that you began in class.
  • Complete or redraw your sketch from the image of the building you chose to bring to class, using sketching tips from the video and from our class discussion.
  • Choose an interior view in your home or elsewhere, and sketch a 1 or 2-point sketch perspective.

Writing Assignment:

  1. Why is sketching important to you?
  2. Why is free-hand sketching important to the author of the article?

Submit your Sketches and Written work for Assignment 2 – Due Sunday February 21, by 6pm — to Dropbox here.

note: we will review formatting + file submittal requirements for the rest of the semester in class.

  • Introduce Plan, Elevation views of architectural drawing

Objectives

  • Demonstrate understanding of architectural sketching — line quality, one- and two-point perspective; + initial understanding of orthogonal views
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of various scales in architectural drawing

  • Practice use of architectural scale
    • Watch video on reading + using a scale
    • Draw Graphic Scale on your 11×17 sheet

To-Do After Class

  • Drawing Assignment – 3 Views of Desk:
    • From your sketches in class, and the dimensions given, complete these drawings at the scale of: 3/4″=1′-0″.
    • See these Slides from class for more information.
    • All drawings shall be done on 11×17 paper with title block + graphic scale as demonstrated in class. See slides for samples.
    • Submit one pdf of your drawings, formatted as described above in Activities, and we reviewed in class.
  • Complete all previous assignments. Look in today’s and previous Class Agendas for more information.
