What Gentrifaction looks like

What is Gentrifaction and what does it looks like ?

Gentrifaction is basically a make over for a nieghborhood. brand new building are built, older ones are renovated new businesses start to open, things also get expensive, such as rent, food, property tax increases.

Companies like apple know that gentfried nieghborhoods, have an increase residents with higher income, knowing that apple and other companies such a whole food and starbucks. the problem is gentrication changes the culture layout of nieghborhood. what was once a spanish resturant is now a a starbucks, what was family own grocery store is now a wholes foods. I,m not saying that residents of these neighborhoods don’t enjoy places like starbucks and whole foods but there wasn’t market for them before, these nieghborhoods had influx higher income residents. The truth is the long term residents would rather get coffee for $1 at the deli instead of $5 at starbucks and gentrification is making hard for them to live comfortably in the nieghborhood they grew up in.

The images above shows how new luxury  buildings rise over brown stones building. the problem that buildings around the high rises suffer too. The property tax is increased for the people next door. than the owner increases the rent for his apartement, now residents of the neighborhood are paying more even though thier building didnt get renotaved or upgraded.  Gentrication is a domino kind of thing, one person actions have big affect on residents, businesses and increase in taxes. This hurts long term residents the most, and makes it so people with lower income have a harder time living in new york city even though the city needs these people with lower income jobs, to litteraly run the city. jobs like santitation, plublic transportation, park workers and many more who keep the city clean and running.
