  1. Dr. Katopodis’ presentation was very informative and encouraged critical thinking. Some of the things that resonated with me from her presentation are:

    1.      Lead with connection – Reminding us to spend time getting students to know us and us knowing our students. If this connection is made students will trust us and we will create a better learning environment. If students have a problem, they will not be afraid to approach us, whether it is personal, or class related. They will feel less lonely, reduce their psychological distress and have a feeling of belonging.

    2.      Group Work – Encourage group work. Let students know that everyone in the group should be included. Tell them that everyone in the group should be friends. If they are friends, then they will be more comfortable working together.

    3.      Use Badge to encourage participation. Those who get a certain number of badges will get a certain percentage towards their final grade. This will encourage students to be more participative in groups and individually.

Why does the Brooklyn Waterfront matter from your discipline

The Brooklyn Waterfront is an interesting place to explore for students in Business, because of its history and current development.  In the 19th century and early 20th century it was a center for shipping, trade and industry which are important areas to focus on in business. Immigrants from different communities played vital roles in the workforce during that time, which highlights diversity in the workplace. Currently there are beautiful views, recreational spaces, historical indicators, and hotspots for arts, which attract tourists which means revenue for businesses.
