Ralph Steadman Exhibit

An Afternoon on the Serpentine

This is my favorite piece in the exhibition. It is based on another work of art by Seurat from the 1880’s called A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. I like this piece because of Steadman’s use of stippling and the contrast between the subjects and their location in the composition.

John Lennon, 1967 Richard Avedon Posters, Inc.

One of my favorite pieces was this poster of John Lennon. I like how the designer used analogous colors to create contrast.

My sketch

This was part of an assignment during a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum, where I had to select a painting and attempt to sketch it with consideration to its proportions and relativity to all the objects. Scale and proportion played a big role in making this sketch. The frame had to have the right dimensions so I could get the right proportions and since there were 2 groups of fruit it was tricky getting them proportionate to the center of the painting.
