HW 6: Picturing Breakfast Around The World

In my culture, children are always told: “Eat breakfast yourself, share lunch with a friend and leave dinner for an enemy”. I grew up following this phrase and I can’t imagine a good day without having a breakfast. In American society, especially if living in NYC, during a busy morning, it’s easy to let breakfast fall low in your list of priorities, but just a few minutes to make something easy but filling to eat can really make a difference to your day. Breakfast provides the body with fuel and energy after an overnight fast. It is a good source of important nutrients and vitamins such as calcium, protein, iron and many more. While reading the New York Times article “Rise and Shine” about what kids around the world eat for breakfast, I was amazed how the world cultures can differ from each other presenting such a wide variety of the meals consumed by people from different countries. Yet, most of them have displayed that having breakfast is important. Many studies of children have shown that it is the best way to improve memory and concentration levels as well as attainment, behavior and better grades. I believe that fruit and vegetables contain daily portion of vitamins and minerals so I try to include them in my meal to get through munnamedy day.

Homework #7: Instagram and the Art of Food Photography

Happy Thanksgiving! In our homework, we have considered how photographing food can be an art form. A recent article “Food instagrammers turn their accounts in professions” in the Wall Street Journal highlights how some people have turned their obsession with photographing food into real-world perks, like free meals or cash! Using social media outlets, like Instagram, these foodie entrepreneurs have turned their love of eating out into a viable marketing tool for the hospitality industry. Read the Wall Street Journal article and compare these amateur photos to food photographs by an art photographer like Martin Parr, who is a member of the esteemed photography cooperative Magnum Photos. Parr created a series dedicated “British Foods,” which includes the photograph of the turkey shown here. What do you think are some of the differences between food photography for marketing and food photography for art? Do you prefer one over the other?

Homework #6 Most important meal of the day!

After reading the new York times article rise and shine by Malia Wollan and Hannah Whitaker I’ve have seen many different children around the world that  have there most important meal of the day breakfast in different forms. Breakfast to me is the most important meal of the day just because once you have waken up for your long day you will need to fuel and energize yourself before you start because without it anything you do will be your kryptonite. Breakfast around the world has its different tradition in my country breakfast is not just the most important meal of the day but it is a welcoming saying I want you to have a great day and a bless one too and the breakfast that is serve is in small portion that is sworn around the table for everyone to eat non e only for one person. For me without breakfast there would be a sad and a sleepy world with nothing to look forward to in the morning. In this country there is many sugary food that are given not only for breakfast but as well for any other dishes that are not even sweets and America needs to cut down on sugary food products and make more of a healthier meal plan where in other countries the portion and the meal it self is small and filling as well. What Is essential to me is a big cup of OJ because it gives you the morning rush and that goes perfect with anything you’ll eat in the morning with.  Image result for orange juice

Homework 6

“Breakfast the most important meal of the day “or so I’ve been told. Living in a Hispanic home we really stressed always eating something for breakfast as it is so important to someone’s day. Breakfast can be the difference between you having the energy to go throughout your day effectively. After starting college I’ve noticed how much time management is important and how you may forget to eat in the morning as you’re always rushing to do something. American breakfast is way too sugary and is mostly not something you will ever see being eaten for breakfast in another culture. what I think is essential to breakfast is fruit I love fruit and feel even if you eat something that isn’t so filled with nutrients , fruits will make up what’s  is left out .fruits for photo

Homework 6

Breakfast is suppose to be the most essential meal of the day.For Americans it is more of a if I have time to eat it thing.Breakfast in America is by far different from what was shown in the NY times article. For most children in America a bowl of cereal and milk is breakfast, and if one is lucky maybe some eggs and bacon. For me an Iced caramel latte and a bagel on a good day does the trick.I don’t usually eat breakfast because I’m usually never awake for breakfast. When I work at night it cuts down waking up for breakfast unless I have an early class , which is the only time I ever eat breakfast. Comparing American breakfast to others around the world I can honestly say we have a sweet tooth and have an unhealthy breakfast.Back in Trinidad our breakfast contains porridge , bake and salt fish. We are always told cereal is not breakfast. Is breakfast essential? Yes.Does that mean we always have a proper morning breakfast ? Not at all.

Breakfast is important

I believe breakfast is essential. They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day and I agree. In the morning you have to get your body up and ready to go for the day, so besides showering and getting dressed, you need to fuel your brain. Eating breakfast in the morning gives your brain the nutrients it needs to get off to the right start. Growing up as a kid, I was always told to eat my breakfast . No matter whether it was oatmeal or toast with butter and orange juice, you at least need to have something. From reading the article, you see how around the world different countries have a different take on breakfast. Something that may seem strange to us as breakfast is the norm for someone else. I do believe Americans breakfast foods are too sugary. The breakfast cereals are coated with sugar. Frosted flakes are coated in sugar and a toaster strudel is filled with a sugary filling and topped with a white frosting. Americans need to do better with breakfast foods.

HW#6

Breakfast! A major essential for the day?

A lot of times as an adult it is hard to squeeze breakfast into your daily routine. There is so much to do throughout the day that it becomes more challenging. As a New Yorker you are always running around from one place to another. Businesses like Dunkin Doughnuts do so well because they sell food on the go which is a key essential for all New Yorkers. Also for children parents are running around in the morning to get them ready for school so something like cereal would be a go to morning meal, all it requires is milk. An ideal breakfast for me would consist of home made baked goods fruits and a veg with fresh juice, but who has the time to make all of that??

Breakfast: HW #5

imageTo this day, I frequently hear the phrase “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” When I was younger, I didn’t care enough to eat breakfast or believe that it was important, but now, I completely agree with this saying. Breakfast is the meal that helps us start our days. It provides us with the nutrients and energy we need to focus on our tasks throughout the day. This semester I realized how true it is. Waking up at 5am isn’t very easy, especially when a 5 hour class follows, but having breakfast before class really helps. After reading this article, I realized how unhealthy American breakfast is. Compared to those of Istanbul, Paris, and Iceland, what we eat is horrible. Most of what we eat is sugary and fattening. We should follow by example and eat healthier foods. I love having bagels and fruit for breakfast. I don’t think I could ever get tired of it!
