Introduction to Sustainability

Sustainability is a topic that is near and dear to my heart and I thought why not write about this as my research paper this semester. People all around the world are coming to the realization that something needs to change. Something in the food we grow, cook, eat, and dispose. They are starting to question the where’s, whys, how’s and what next in their food chains.

In the Food Service Industry there is waste every day, every hour. How can we minimize that waste and implement a system that can actually put this waste to good use that will go right back into the food chain and nourish the food grown on farms and even the animals. This is where Sustainability Practices take shape in the industry.

You might ask yourself, “What is Sustainability Practices?”. Sustainability is a broadly defined term but in this context sustainability is the implementation of a management system to minimize the waste and re-use it to create a safe, healthy future environment that will protect and sustain our environment without depleting the resources we already have at hand.
