Imaginary Op-Ed on the New Yankee Stadium

Subject: issues related to the building of the new yankee stadium

Thesis: although the yankee stadium is a positive thing for the city, the team hasn’t followed through on promises to the community for recreational parks, therefore, the city should rethink its approach to building future stadiums.

In “Rethinking the New Yankee Stadium” by Matthew K. Gold, an op-ed published in The New York Times on September 1, 2011, Gold writes about issues related to the building of the new Yankee stadium. Gold argues that although the new Yankee stadium is a positive thing for the city, the team hasn’t followed through on promises to the community for recreational parks; therefore, the city should rethink its approach to building future stadiums. [3 supporting pieces of evidence, with select quotations of important terms]. Gold suggests that the Yankees committed “highway robbery on an unprecedented scale” in getting their new stadium built, “bilking the city” out of millions of dollars. For all of these reasons, Gold believes that the city should consider future stadium proposals with more care and oversight.
