Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my e-portfolio! My name is Farah Etienne. I am currently a senior in the New York City College of Technology Dental Hygiene Program. I really love being a student hygienist and I am looking forward to graduating and working as an RDH.

Looking back, however, working as an RDH was not my first career choice. I previously graduated from New York City College of Technology with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services. I chose this profession because I really wanted to help people. I continued on to acquire my trainee certificate in substance abuse counseling from Kingsborough Community College. I then worked in the field for five years as a case manager at a nonprofit in Bedstuy, Brooklyn. Although this was an amazing job, I felt that it ultimately was not a good fit for me. I then started doing some research into other careers. I still had a passion for helping others and wanted to find a profession where I can do just that. This is when I stumbled on to Dental Hygiene. This was a profession in the medical field that not only focused on healing patients but also teaching and empowering them to improve their health. The fact that my alma mater offered the program was a happy bonus. I took the pre-requisites, made it into the program, and the rest is history.
