Documentation

Our group is constituated of Joey, Ismael, and Laura which were assigned to do a research tool. There are so many research tools but we decided to do a mobile application that helps organize the process of doing a research paper. As students we have been assigned to do research papers and we know how much this work is stressful to accomplish. Reason why we brought our ideas together to create this mobile application for other students in order to make things easier for them. The name JILsteps was created using the first letter of our names and also because our research tool discusses the steps you need to complete a research paper.

Documentation is a process of achieving a task that could be used by anyone without any instructor. In this assignment our role was to document a research paper in order to make it easier for other students; JILsteps came with a new strategy which is different from the known strategies. In our strategy we ask students to begin their research paper by choosing a topic with which they are familiar and try to find the thesis statement. After finding the thesis statement it is crucial to do a deep brainstorming. Afterwards, outline the importing ideas from your brainstorming, write an essay without thinking about any sources, and then find some sources to support your ideas. Finally,  write the final draft by combining your essay and your sources.

The book Research Strategies finding your way through the information fog by William Badke was introduced in class.  The book was essential to understanding the process of writing a research paper, as well as other stuff.  This source helped the process of the application, in the application a sorted out checklist was created to help the student or user.  This source helped our checklist as Badke introduced a very interesting thought on how to start our research paper, which we feel is the hardest part.  Badke introduces a way to prepare yourself on your topic; you must have background knowledge on the topic; to insure this you must be able to talk about the topic for one minute.  This is our second bullet in our to-do list, which we feel it would help the user completely understand what the topic is and where the user stands in knowledge for the topic.  The book is highly recommended to read as it touches much more information about doing research and then going about to writing it.

Influenced also by an article we found in the internet written by Aaron Couch, he explained steps that one could take to organize the process of completing a research paper. He gave his own experience in what it is like to conquer this task, this and other sources we have used add up to what is our main point in creating a research tool for others students.

Unlike other strategies of writing research paper, JILsteps proposes an efficient and easy way to write a research paper. Indeed, in JILsteps, after finding your thesis statement and finishing your outline, we suggest students to write an essay instead of thinking about research paper. While writing your essay, never think about the grammar, spelling or word number; write whatsoever comes to your mind. However, do not forget to focus on your outline.

Furthermore, one of the motives of this strategy is that most students try to plagiarize research paper by just copying the argumentation of the sources they want to use for they research papers. Thus, by writing your first draft without any source is a better way to avoid plagiarism.

Next, after writing your essay, find at least two sources for each outline to support the ideas that have been developed in those paragraphs; and finally review your entire paper by looking for errors such as punctuation, subject verb agreement, fragment, and spelling, and also repetition; mostly be more explicit where you need to be and delete the useless parts, and too do not forget to respect the required words number; you can be above, but not below. Those ideas came from the book Rules of Thumb written by Jay Silverman, Elaine Hughes and Diana Roberts Wienbroer.

The last part of your research paper is the work cited; this is what makes your paper a real research paper otherwise your work is merely an essay; let readers check the credibility of your sources by providing all sources you used in your paper. Alternatively, easybib can easily help accomplish this task. Easybib.com was intrudoce to us by our professor Leonard adn it is a easy tool use for work citing.
