Internship Journal Entry 1

Today is my first day of training at the Faculty Commons internship!

My first task was to recreate a poster and a banner exactly now it was given to us. I thought the poster will have all the right information and free of typos since it was all ready finished and published, but apparently not, it was tampered with to see if the trainees will be able to catch it. I caught some of the typos but did not notice that the link to a website that was given to us was not correct. Now I know to check the spelling and links to see if they work no matter what format the text or information was given to me.

The second project was to redesign a poster of our choice from the faculty common wall. I chose the Earth Day poster. The problems that came up at the start of this project was getting some sketches in a very short limit of time. Other wise, to day was a pretty good start of first day of training.

  1. Philip,

Good start to your first day of training! It is always important to read anything you are given as a designer. Not only are we designing the poster, we are proofreading the poster and always keep an eye on detail. Never be afraid to ask question if you are curious about anything.

Also, normally we usually have more time to come up with sketches but for the purpose of training, we want to see your creative process and how you work under deadlines, which we will constantly have throughout our lives as designers. But i enjoyed hearing your comments you shared with Natalie as well as with us for your poster. Continue to keep that going!

Be on time always but great start to the training.

  2. Philip,

Here at Faculty Commons we put an equal amount of emphasis on graphic communication and accurate information. It is important to keep in mind that clients can send typos in the information they give. Never be afraid to ask questions and check the information to see if it accurate. Also it is good to have other team members take a look at your design to check for any errors.
