Art in 32 X 32

Featuring Susan Kare

This illustration + typography poster, created in Adobe Illustrator, showcases a fictional exhibition of Susan Kare’s art gallery in Tokyo, Japan. The title, Art in 32 x 32, refers to the 32 x 32 pixel grid that was a defining characteristic of early digital icons designed by Susan Kare.

The design used an axial grid for layout structure and included the fonts, MonacoTTFChakra Petch, and Osaka, alongside the Happy Mac, Bomb, and Dogcow icons by Susan Kare. I focused on emphasizing Susan Kare’s name with a pixelated text effect, inspired by the Nobu Design tutorial. Additionally, I included the Japanese phrase (シャープ), which is often used to describe something stylish, as a way to celebrate the impact of Susan Kare’s work.
