Last Christmas – Song By Wham (1984)
The task was to choose a desired song and communicate the text, including the lyrics, title, and performer’s name, in ten different expressions using expressive typography in Adobe Illustrator.
I chose this song because Christmas is one of my favorite holidays. The Christmas theme inspired me to use festive colors like red and green, along with symbols like snowflakes and Christmas trees. The project involved design tools such as gradients, area type, and envelope distortion, as well as adjusting the leading, tracking, and kerning. I also use the type-on-path tool as an outline to create shapes.
Inspired by the Origami with Jo Nakashima channel tutorial, I created the letters “Merry Christmas” using silver & gold origami, and taped them onto red paper. To complete the design, I drew snowflakes with a whiteout. My goal was to convey the joy and warmth of the Christmas season.
