Art piece inspired by – “A Town with an Ocean View” (Joe Hisaishi, 1989)

The task was to create a black & white grid-based composition inspired by a piece of music. The song I chose is from the anime Kiki’s Delivery Service, one of my favorite Studio Ghibli films. The movie tells the story of Kiki, a young witch who moves to a seaside town to train and starts a flying delivery service. In her journey, she faces challenges like self-doubt and learns to be independent and believe in herself. The song feels nostalgic and heartwarming, reminding me of the movie and inspiring my choice.

For my design, I use repeated patterns inspired by objects from the movie, such as birds, ocean waves, Kiki’s red bow, clouds, and buildings to depict Kiki’s journey flying through the town and ocean. I also include drums as cylinder shapes surrounded by electric symbols to reflect the song’s rhythm.
