In The Eyes Of The Wolf
Materials: graphite pencils, inking pens, tracing papers (to transfer posterized images to Bristol paper), and masking tapes (to ensure straight edges).
The task was to create black-and-white portraits that convey a mood or feeling using the rule of thirds, stable figure-ground, and clear focal points.
In sketching, I began by identifying the wolf’s darkest areas and visible outlines, such as around the eye, nose, and fur in the ear. I then moved from the darkest to the lightest areas.
In my realist version, I incorporate blending and layering the fur, drawing short lines quickly to follow the fur’s direction. For the second sketch, I avoided blending, allowing shapes to be more distinct. The third sketch was inked, where I used varying shapes like “V” shapes for the fur and pointy edges for the fur areas.
