AI Questions

Like many in academia, the English department is still formulating our approach to how to utilize AI in our classrooms. As part of our composing in the 21st century learning objectives for both courses, we want to help students learn how to use AI thoughtfully and with descretion in our writing classrooms without losing writing or critical thinking skills. You can see the temporary official English Department policy here:

English Department’s Artificial Intelligence Policy:

During this class, we may use Generative AI tools. You will be informed as to when, where, and how these tools are permitted to be used, along with guidance for attribution. Any use of AI must be intentional and properly cited. Use outside of this permission constitutes a violation of City Tech’s Academic Integrity Policy

City Tech has created an AI Resources Hub that provides some guidance and assignments. The English Department also has a page on the First Year site called “Comp in the Age of AI.”

Whenever you use AI in your classroom, please provide students with very clear guidelines as to when and how they can use it.  That being said, there are ongoing discussions about this within the department.  Any updates or materials will be shared with faculty.
