Listening Log Assignment:  song used – “The Greatest” by Sia

(1) 3 phrases/lyrics that strike me

“Uh oh, running out of breath, but I oh, I got stamina.”

“Don’t give up I won’t give up Don’t give up No No No”

“I am free to be the greatest I’m alive”

This song fills me up with positive energy and motivation to move forward whenever I encounter an obstacle in my life. This song also keeps reminding me as long I have stamina in me, I can still stand up and fight. I can relate this song to what is going on in this world these days, so many people have lost their lives due to the virus. We should be happy to be alive and we must be persistent and keep going on. So many people did not get a chance to see the next day,but we are free to be the greatest. Never give up or never take away someone else’s life. As long as we have stamina, we can fight and be the greatest.

The rhythm is very upbeat, and the song is very hyper. I notice the tone changes throughout the song, but the song carries the same massage until the end.

Song used – “Revolution in Paradise” by Heath Hunter (Artem Smart Remix)

    • 3 phrases/lyrics that strike me.

    “Love is the answer”
“So much pain, so much poverty”
    “See the beauty is everywhere”
This is a very uplifting song. This song talks about the revolution of conciseness and asking people to start appreciating our mother nature and the paradise around us. “See the beauty is everywhere”. It is a form of calling for action to take care of our world and our surrounding. End poverty and bring positive changes where people can come together and create a better and free world. As this song carries the same positive message until the end, this is what we really need right now “a positive change” in the world.

    (2) 3 repetitions I have noticed.
The chorus lyrics repeat throughout the song
    “Here we go”
    “Here we say”
    “It’s a revolution in paradise”

    (3) 3 changes I have noticed.
The beat of the song changes in the middle.
    The tone changes.
Another change that I have noticed that there is a switch from singing to rapping.

Listening Log Assignment: song used – “The way” by Fastball.

    (1) 3 phrases/lyrics that strike me

“They made up their minds and they started packing”
“The children woke up and they couldn’t find ’em.”
“They’ll never get old and gray”

This is an incredible song with a nice melody. However, this is a gloomy song about a couple who left everything behind just to travel the world. One day they woke up and decided to leave their house. They packed everything and started driving without even telling their children. During their trip, the car broke down and they continued their journey on foot. Though, in the chorus, it describes how thrilled they were to leave everything behind. What strikes me the most is that when their children woke up, they could not find their parents, and how could any parent leave their children behind in such a manner?

    (2) 3 repetitions that I notice
“Same base playing throughout the song”
“The same guitar playing throughout the song”
    “chorus repeats a few times”

    (3) 2 changes that I notice
The rhythm of the music changes throughout the song.
    The beat changes.

  3. Indeevari – Listening Log- (Assignment 4)

Listening Log Assignment: song used – “Nothing Else Matter” by Metallica.

    (1) 3 phrases/lyrics that strike me

“Trust I seek and I find in you.”
    “Never open myself this way”
    “Everyday for us something new”

The song is about a deep connection between two lovers which conquers the long distance that set them apart. The leards guitarist of the band wrote the song in 1990 when he was talking on the phone to his girlfriend. He dedicated the song to the strong bond between him and his woman. This song is timeless. No matter how many times I listen, I never get tired of this song. If two people are really in love with each other, distance should not matter.

    (2) 3 repetitions I notice

Chorus repeats few times throughout the story
“Nothing else matters” repetes in verse 1,2 &3
    Guitar plays throughout the song

    (3) 2 changes that I notice

“The rare perfume is the sweet intoxication of her love.”
“No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this”
“Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire”
This is one of my all time favorite songs. The exotic track mix makes this song very unique and mysterious. This is a romantic song with a nice melody. “Desert Rose” refers to a woman and “Desert” used as a metaphor to show how lonely life is without love.

    (2) 3 repetitions I notice

Chorus repeats few times throughout the story
    Drum beat repeats
    Guitar plays throughout the song
