Group project progress

We have agreed on Global clean up (service and problem) as our topic.

Deciding on roles, we divided into 2 groups, service and problem and sub topics for both of them would be discussing the current problems, solutions on ways to clean up already polluted areas, services to improve our carbon foot print.

Timothy Huie – Thoughts on Anything

Giraffes average an height of aroudn16-18 ft. I think they look taller than that but that’s just me. They consume a whopping 100 pounds of leaves and twigs a day. I for one cant imagine eating that much, let alone it being leaves. Ive tried eating vegetarian for a day and came to a conclusion that 3 meals a day was not enough. Ive heard once before that vegetation has 100% or so energy and as the consumer eats the leaves, energy is lost cause their body is consuming the leaves. Then, when another animal or human eats the animal that ate the leaves, it loses even more. But that being said, I felt way more satisfied and energized after eating a nice piece of steak. 🙂

Thoughts on Technical Term Essay

First thing first is I dread writing essays dealing with scholarly articles because of the simple fact that it feels too forced. The thought of having to contribute “peered reviewed” articles makes me stressed, so there is that. Also, thinking of a solid term with quite a lot of history was challenging at best.

Timothy Huie, Elizabeth kolbert – Thats what you think

This was an exciting read. With everyone always thinking they are always on their own ship with their own views and thoughts, this article highlights how appealing it is for someone else to feel the same way about views and thoughts as you do. Its great because I personally would be more inclined to think my way of thinking is at least remotely correct if someone else other than me felt the same.

Timothy Huie 200 word summary – John Arnold Made a Fortune at Enron. Now He’s Declared War on Bad Science

Brian Nosek was a rising researcher and he struggled with funding for his research as well as his final product of his research because he worried about the ways in which the standard of new findings needed to have like, attention grabbers or the validity of the finding. In this belief, Nosek started a study on validity of past researches and findings, because of this particular goal of trying to question previous published findings, funding was scarce. However, Nosek received funding from the Laura and John Arnold Foundation. Because of this, Nosek and his fellow researchers verified the findings of about 40% pf the studies. Nosek was not the only one the Arnold foundation was funding. John Ioannddis, who published “Why Most published Research findings are false” or Ben Goldacre who researched against pharmaceutical companies, tricked the public into paying for unessential services to name a couple.  This all in all sparked back lash on the Arnold foundation. Next, Arnold came about believing in questioning the validity of findings. After all that the Arnold foundation has progressed, reformations like implementing statisticians to review papers, new requirements for data sharing and plans for teaching researchers new and old about the need for findings to be able to be reproduced. Lastly, the article ends off on the question of if Arnold’s affect on the whole publication process and findings because of how deep the roots of the system are, may or may not be able to change.

Timothy Huie – Thoughts, reactiosn to John Arnold Article

John Arnold Made a Fortune at Enron. Now He’s Declared War on Bad Science

This Article made me think about other organizations like Microsoft and billion dollar entities fighting against causes like the trump administration. People are using money to fund for the “war” against things and although this article was quite difficult, it did not distract from the fact that organizations are fighting back. I think this could have both positive and negative effects.

Timothy Huie D594 Thoughts on Short Stories

All you Zombies by Robert Heinlein

I found this story a bit in my area because its sci-fi and reminded me of a time when i tried reading and worked out for a while. I was reading daniel X with abnormal events taking place as well. In All you zombies, time travel was a thing, not to mention a intersex baby, a mother and a younger female was in fact the same damn person. And in daniel X, crazy monsters were a thing.  See the resemblance? The same could be said about Sound of thunder about time traveling but I was more into the different time periods. Maybe sci-fi is my area, this particular short story shined some light on my interests as a reader.
