Discourse community : City Tech students
    Artifact : Student ID

I chose City Tech’s student ID as an artifact because it represents clearly that a person is the part of the school, and a part of the City Tech discourse community. A City Tech student ID looks like a small card with school’s name, student’s picture, name, last name and emplid id # on it. It is important to City Tech students discourse community so students could enter the school campus, get to the school library, get benefits out of school, and it is a legitimate proof for a student to be the part of the community. The intended audience of the artifact is for the students themselves first of all to enter the school, to get the student’s benefits and etc. Then goes the school security so they can see if the student is part of the community and if they’re able to enter the school’s building . The school library also needs to see the student’s ID in order to give out the school’s books and resources to the students of City Tech. The main purpose of this artifact is to proof that the student is enrolled in City tech college for classes which makes him a part of the discourse community. It is a credible source since it shows the school’s name on the ID right away and emplid id # which proves it. The artifact appeals to the emotions by reminding the students that they’re part of the community. The artifact appeals to the logic by the ID itself since it already shows the student’s and school’s name. It is a formal artifact since it’s an ID which makes a legitimate proof of being a part of the discourse community.

    DC:Peruvian Cooking Community
    Artifact:Recipes

I chose this artifact because it is one of the main factors in cooking. Without those recipes most dishes wouldn’t taste the same since everyone have their own preferences. This artifact bring us together to gain more knowledge and experience in cooking.
The artifact is a recipe , a bunch of papers put in a binder. The binder with recipes is In the kitchen. The recipe has many ingredients that aren’t commonly sold in New York , since they don’t have enough Peruvian products here in Brooklyn.
This artifact is important to my discourse community because it keeps the tradition going between my family. It is key because when you search the dish up online, it may not be the same. In the recipes there are certain differences for each ones taste. It is meaningful because it brings us together by sharing what my grandma used to eat in her childhood back in Peru. My dc uses the artifact to make the Peruvian dishes , we use it to guide us step by step.
The genre of the artifact is the recipe . The recipe is shared among the members and helps us communicate and work on the piece. The intended audience of the artifact are the members of the discourse community . We are the ones that see, read, and use the recipe in order to make the dishes. The purpose of the artifact is to help us share recipes and gain more knowledge on how to make each dish.
The artifact helps establish credibility of the dc because it holds all the ingredients needed to make a dish. For example some ingredients can be found at Peruvian markets in queens or New Jersey. Without these key ingredients that we have to follow from the recipe, the food wouldn’t taste the same. The artifact appeals to the emotions of the members because we all bring a recipe from our families , also from the members who the recipe has been passed down and means so much to them. It also appeals to the emotions because it reminds us of our family members back in Peru. The artifact appeals to the logic of the dc members by gaining more knowledge on how to cook homemade Peruvian food. From what we already know, we get to share with the other members. If it was a written or spoken text the tone of the artifact would be formal because it gives out information to each of the members.

    • Rickey Bryant Discourse Community: City Tech Students Artifact:Clothing

1.I choose clothing is because the logos
represent the school and the background
image of where it comes from.
2.A city tech clothes is a much like a brand that’s represent the school and get the know more about the school.
3.The school clothing is important is because it tell more the school seeing wear merch means a lot because maybe random that walking out they will know that school that person goes to.For this City tech students for my artifact clothing is something they wear when going to the book store seeing the school names on the clothing it helps the school people outside of the school can get to know more about city tech.
4.The intended audience are city tech students because if they was were playing for the school team or anything they will also wear the school merch to represent city tech the school it means a lot to them to know where u go to school at.
      5. The artifact appeals to the emotions by the clothing like a brand where city tech students can’t buy the merch with the school name on it to wear. It’s also very good that people do buy Cory tech clothing from their it’s because the background of this clothing is mean something the means a lot for Professor and students because it’s help them represent the school so one day other people could attend to the school and buy merch.

The artifact I choose was the scrubs I would use in the vet. I choose this artifact because it is a crucial part of the uniform used at the vet. I and my friend were volunteering together and we had to change into them every day.
The scrubs that the volunteers used were a dark navy blue color. While the actual technicians in the vet used this bright teal color. The doctor would sometimes use this dark purple scrub or she would mostly use her white lab coat.
The scrubs were a form of uniform used at the clinic and they are very important to use on a daily. It’s important to protect yourself from carrying any bacteria with you since you might be working with a sick pet. It’s also important to protect the pet as well from any outside germs. It’s a way to keep everything hygienic.
The artifact is important for the pet owners and for the doctors to know what your task at the clinic is. If you see people with teal scrubs you know that they will be the ones responsible for injecting the pets or giving them a check-up. The doctor will always have the white lab coat on so you know they can be the ones to also check the pets and do medical procedures.
If in a text the genre of the artifact will be medical clothes or uniform. Scurbs can be used in vets and in normal human hospitals and doctors as well.
The artifact helps establish a credible source because scrubs are used in any medical field. The artifact appeals to emotion because at the vet you know that the people with scrubs and medical uniforms are there to make your pet feel better and do what it takes. The artifact appeals to logic because it’s logical to see people with scrubs at a vet and it’s professional and essential too. The tone of the artifact would be professional.

    Discourse Community: Cycling Community
    Artefact: Personal Bike

I chose this artefact because our possessions mean a lot to us personally. Whether it’s a car, house, toy, a quote, clothes, etc. In our community, our bikes are what brings us together. It’s the two wheels that we use to get around and achieve our goals. Looking at someone’s bike could really tell you about the other person. The way they ride, the comfort they go for, the gearing they use, and overall the way they plan on achieving their goals.

The artefact is a welded metal or aluminium frame. When dropped on the ground, it could be light or obnoxious depending on what’s attached to it. It is heartbreaking though. Depending on the gears we use the bike could be loud when cruising or quiet.

My discourse community uses our bikes to get along and meet new people. Our community ranges from all of NYC and tri state. When we hold meets there’s always a good 100-200 riders mobbing through. We use our bikes to interact with other people who have similar interests and to diversify ourselves to meet different types of people.

The genre of our bikes would be track bikes. The intended audience would be those interested in seeing how us riders use our bikes to commute through the city. Also for those who want to learn how to race and learn the movement. The purpose of the artefact is to get from point A to Z safely.

Our bikes being an artefact is a credible source because it’s what brings us together. The way we custom our bikes, the way we ride, having one wheel in the air, jumping on our seat shifting leg to leg. Our bikes help us escape from the real world. Ask any real rider. When we hop on these bikes nothing matters, all stress and worldly problems disappear. The tone of our bikes if able to speak would depend on our mood.

    Tehmina Imanat
    Discourse Community: Baking club
    Artifact: Shared recipes

I chose this artifact because we had built the baking club around these recipes. Each member had a chance to share a personal/recipe they like and it helped everyone get more ideas, kniwkge and ways to bake a certain thing in many different ways.
The artifact is the shared recipes. They were shared and presented in notes, lists, books, and/or verbally. The artifact is about sharing different recipes with the members to show everyone how diverse a baked good can be made with different techniques, tools, and ingredients.
This artifact is important to my DC because it was the foundation base of the group, we created and built on these recipes and it helped us gain a lot of knowledge about igenergds we might have not used before. It made us explore new things.
The genre of the artifact can be cookbooks.
the intended audience of the artifact are cooks, bakers, and people working in the kitchen.
The purpose is to inspire others to learn new recipes/ ways to cook with different ingredients and tools.
The artifact appeals to the logic of the DC members because it inspires people in the kitchen and teaches a lot.
The tone is formal because the recipes were clear and direct to the point.

    Mountain Biking
Full Suspension / Hardtail Mountain bike
Without this artifact you can’t be part of this discourse commits since its based around it. A mountain bike comes in a variety of shapes, sizes, weights, types, and power type. For example my bike is a full suspension-downhill bike, like the name implies its speciality is downhill racing making it quick and agile at the cost of speed since a lighter bike is easier to turn and accelerate with rather than a bike for gears and geometry for speed.
All bikes start off with a V or S shaped center where suspension, front derailleurs, battery packs, mid drive systems go and the bike sprouts outwards where the front is given air shocks, and a hydraulic braking system plus a mud guard for good measure. The rear of the bike is where most of riding power is transferred, though the number of gears whether it’s a chain, belt or shaft driven bike all power for most bikes go to the rear wheel. Some bikes have electric front and rear motors mounted inside the wheels called Hub-Drive systems or the Mid-Drive systems that connect directly to the pedals to give 2x the power plus your own. Most bikes are made and welded with aluminum, the newer bikes have carbon fiber frames with titanium rods and parts to make them stronger than bullet proof vests making them indestructible when they are on the trails.
In the discourse community every has a mountain bike whether its cheap or expensive, at the end of the day with the rider it’s just an extremely expensive piece of metal, rubber of plastic. As riders we give life to these tools with techniques, stickers, memories, and care that each one that is dedicated to their bike.
The rhetorical situation that is most likely used in this discourse community is media because whether you need to adjust the shifting between gears or want to learn a trick on how to get over a rock its just a quick google search away from a perfectly shifting rear derailleur, or how to pump- up a rock feature for next time when the trail turns rocky. The audience can be anyone willing to give this sport a try or a few laughs out of it too and of course friends.
How this discourse community establishes ethos is by having different regions of the world having different styles and techniques when it comes to riding, an example would be in the US, most mountain bikers do a tail whip to cancel out the bikes tendency to tip forwards but in the AU riders “lick” the handle bars ( pitch up like you are about to do a wheelie ) and land rear first. The pathos of this discourse community is like a dance with you and the bike, finding the rhythm, feeling the bike whether or not its planted on the ground. The pathos of this discourse community can be found in the garage or homes of most riders tuning and or cleaning the bike, finding different pressures or suspension stiffness to make the bike more agile or make it soft to make it a comfortable ride.

The artifact is a tag so basically a sticker we put on our cars so we can identify other members and so other people can see that whichever car has the sticker/tag is a part of our community
The artifact came from japan’s most notorious street racing group
The artifact is meaningful to my discourse community because when my boy started out the group it started as all jdm cars and through time we have german and American muscle
We use the artifact by sticking it on our cars wherever we see fit like the windshield or rear windows
The intended audience for the tags are other car teams, ourselves, and anyone, and everyone, it serves as an invitation to get to know us and to identify
The artifact is a credible source in my discourse community because we have been around for so long that now when someone sees the tag they can automatically assume we are a part of the dc
A lot of the members joined other official teams but midnight club is where it all started and for the members, it’s an emotional thing this would be pathos

    Discourse Community: APEX LEGENDS Community

    Artifact: Apex Predator badge

1.I chose that artifact because it’s one of the highest honors in the apex legends community.

2.The artifact is a red badge that has a skull on it.

3.The artifact is important to the discourse community because It’s the highest honor you can receive in apex legends ranked. There is a rank system in the game and the top 750 players from the rank split receive it. The discourse community uses it to show that they are a top player.

4.The intended audience is the player base. Players that take the game seriously are the ones it’s made for. The purpose of the artifact is to give the person who receives the badge a sense of accomplishment because it’s one of the highest accomplishments in the game.

5.The artifact helps establish the discourse community because it’s a goal that most members hope to achieve. The artifact appeals to the members emotions because they get a sense of accomplishment. The artifact appeals to the logic of the members because its the highest reward in the game. The message of it is effective because all the members of the dc grind to get the artifact.

Discourse community: Radiology at city tech. Artifact: x-ray. 1. I choose an x-ray because it is something that is strongly associated when you hear the word radiology. 2. An x-ray looks look a box and works like a camera and takes a picture of the desired area. 3. The artifact is important because it is a big umbrella for the other different modalities. An x-ray can be used for many different diagnosis. 4. The intended audience is the students because they have to be able to read the x-ray and understand what they are looking at. 5. This artifact helps people associate it with radiology. I think that when looking at an x-ray many people think of radiology. It is also the main modality that is taught during class.
