Blog Post 9 – Collaboration

One collaborative project I worked on during my internship at Copycats was the Golden Trophy die-cut project. Most of the projects I worked on were mainly between my supervisor, Joelle, and myself. Since we worked close to each other in the same workspace, communication was very easy. If I had questions or needed feedback, I would simply walk over to her desk and discuss the project. Sometimes she would also come to me to check on my progress or give suggestions.

However, the Golden Trophy die-cut project involved more collaboration with the rest of the team, especially the account managers. The goal of the project was to create a trophy-shaped die-cut that would help promote the company’s gold reflective print service. At first, I designed the trophy using different gold gradients because we wanted the reflective gold print to stand out and look impressive.

Digitally, the design looked successful, but when it came time to print the different gold gradients, the reflective effect was difficult to see clearly. Because of this issue, my supervisor and I asked the account managers for their opinions and feedback on how to improve the design. One account manager suggested changing the trophy from gold to blue while keeping the gold reflective print details. This idea helped create more contrast, which made the reflective print easier to notice.

After many revisions and testing different gold gradients, the team decided that the blue trophy design worked best. In the end, the company moved forward with the blue version and officially created the die-cut.

This project taught me how important teamwork and communication are in the design and printing industry. Even though my original idea needed changes, collaborating with others helped improve the final product. I also learned that sometimes a design may look good digitally but still need adjustments for real printing production
