Weekly Writing Assignment, Week 10

After watching this week’s lecture and reading Prof. Ellis’ “Reply-All” email with your new team assignments, each team should have one member create a folder on Google Drive and share it with the other team members. Then, create a Google Doc inside your team’s shared folder to write a memo together about your team’s project topic deliberations and the topic that you ultimately chose. Each team member should then copy-and-paste the memo into a comment added to this post. Remember: Each team member will copy-and-paste the same memo that you wrote together.

The purpose of this memo is to state the topic/topics that my team members and I have discussed for our team project. With all of us being in different majors, we wanted to pick a topic that would be interesting to us and also revolve around our majors. With two of us being Computer Systems Information (CST) and another being Electrical Engineering, we decided to pick a topic that is modern to discuss. An ongoing issue that is happening is with Cryptocurrency and energy consumption. Bitcoin mining devices are consuming way too much energy than what it’s supposed to. This causes a problem to the states, the cities, and even to other countries that rely on electricity consumption. We felt that this might be a good topic to elaborate on because cryptocurrency is on the rise as well as bitcoin is too. There is a big push to move physical money into digital money and it can be done with Bitcoin but some say that it’s risky and dangerous and some say that it’ll be more economical for the majority of the population. After much thought, my group decided to research and discuss the ongoing situation and possibly present solutions on how we can stop this energy consumption.

We chose as a group to concentrate our teamwork project on the technical issue of cybersecurity. The issue with cybersecurity is that, despite the internet’s ongoing globalization and technology progress, cybersecurity remains an issue that several consumers neglect. Since others can alter your information for their own gain, guarding your internet data is critical. According to the Justice statistics, approximately 67 percent of customers have indeed been victims to at least one attempted cyber-attack. We must raise public awareness about the necessity of cybersecurity as a community when enough folks succumb towards its methods. This issue could attract a lot of social platforms, as attackers frequently approach in order to gather information from consumers. This could, nevertheless, be resolved by increasing consumer cybersecurity resources and make cybersecurity programs far more accessible and usable. We think this is important since it is among the most urgent topics in today’s generation, in our perspective. We intended to communicate the importance of cybersecurity and help analyze consumers to safeguard their personal data and information.

The purpose of the memo is to inform you the professor on what is our subject. Our main subject we plan on doing is called Network Security everyone’s part is filled out (which I will be discussing in Week 11) but it took us awhile to assemble our team. The subjects that we did not chose but we were discussing would be good options were:
    Topics:
Hacking on the internet and cyber security problems
    Networking problems
Identifying, Eliminating, And Removing Malware On Computers
Development problems in coding things people can get stuck on?

These were some of the topics we brainstormed through that we figured we didn’t wanted to do. So we chosen Network Security.
(now I will list our roles in Week 11’s post)
