As we continue to experience new things our brains have the ability to change in order to learn from those new things quick enough to react to them a second time. This ability to change is programmed in all of us deep inside our genes. My topic is the effect that the internet has on our ability to learn, in other words how has the introduction to internet effect the way us humans learn new things. The Internet changes the way we educate ourselves because it gives us a convenient way of gaining information. Most of the new information we are learning today is short and straight to point, and it changes the environment of where we gain experience and intelligence. This means that some day in the far future humans will continue learning through technological devices (as we’re doing today) if we continue educating ourselves in classrooms, rather than where we naturally came from, the outside world.
In our world today we have gone from not having the wheel to making vehicles that can break earth’s atmosphere in a few seconds and then traveling millions of miles away from earth this shows the quick advancement in our technologies and our brains have barely evolved since the Inhabitant of the first civilization, this shows how much humans are able to learn and change in such a short period of time. The human brain control capacity has not changed much from over five thousand years ago, so how is it possible for us to advance in technology so quickly? Part of the reason being is the amount of convince of internet we have placed on this world. The more convenient the internet is to us the faster we can accomplish things that would usually take us an hour or two to complete leaving us more time to focus on other things. For example, Ms. Guzman states that the internet has made “paying bills a lot easier” (Ms. Guzman par 1), she has the convenient internet on her person which can give her the ability to make quick payments. Another example of the internet having lots of convince would be a statement from Ms. Diaz “google helps me answer questions quickly whenever I need them (Diaz par 4). Ms. Diaz has become used to using google as a source of information because it’s a very convenient and available way to learn new things.
In addition to the convenience of the internet, it also an abundance amount of information that is short and straight to the point. This changes our way we obtain new information which can also change the way we act towards information that is larger then just a few paragraphs as said in the shallows “the internet may have made a less patient reader”(Carr page 8). This shows how something like the internet can drastically change the way our brains work. This can make a great change in our lives by shortening our attention span which can effect how we act in class rooms that have long dragged out lectures, also in jobs that require reading long pieces of information. The out come by giving us quick information, we can get other answers from different points of view and get a generalized conclusion to our findings. The other out come to the conclusions that we find can lack in specificity meaning that we can get a conclusion to our findings, but It would only be close to the right answer and the right answer would most likely come from doing the finding yourself. This is difficult for us humans because if we don’t like to do something we find the easiest way to and that is searching up our answers on the internet.
The way we learn things can also be effected by the environment we learn in. Our learning environment was originally the outside world and once we started making the classroom the one thing that boxed us off from the outside world it decreased our ability to learn. This is a reason why kids say that school is so boring most of the time because their attention towards the information and ability to absorb that information has decreased. Over time our brains can change in order to gain information in a classroom easier, but this is only greatly effected if a person constantly is learning while they are boxed off from the outside world. Which could be a reason why some athletes are less attentive in class then a person that spends their time in their studies. With the internet our new learning environment can be both everywhere and at one place. With everywhere meaning in our classrooms, jobs, parks and places that a person normally goes and in one place meaning that the one thing that you’re focused on is the screen that you are looking at for the information. According to the wall street journal “nearly 75% of the US population, or 204.3 million people, have access to the Internet from home”(Wall street journal par1). These statistics were given over ten years ago now our learning environment is just about everywhere there is internet.
The negative impact on the internet being everywhere in our lives is that when we gain fast information we are able to do multiple things at once. This can cause distractions making us unable to absorb the information we are focusing on. “have limited ability to process incoming information” This means that the internet is also effecting us in a way that our conclusions can lack in connection with all the information gathered. This can also effected our short term and our long term memory, because the distractions that the internet gives is making us unable to turn our short term memory in to long term memory.
In conclusion, our brains can be effected by many things including the Internet. Maybe one day in the future we could find a way for the internet to be less of a distraction. One day there could be a software that only lets you open up a few specific things at a curtain period of time of the day, which could help you with focus. One thing that probably won’t decrease is the convince that the internet has, but the other things like environment can change by simply gaining your information in a different place that you feel comfortable in. Something you can do to manage with these effects is change your life style with the changing world. Instead of struggling from switching back and forth from short summaries to two hundred fifty page books stay with the short summaries, it would be less of a struggle on your brain. The world we know today is not staying the same it is changing and I feel its better to change with it rather then to fight against it.

My name is Cisco and I am a student at City Tech, my major is Associate in Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology at the School of Technology and Design. One specific career field that I have in mind is becoming a mechanical engineer technician first and then move myself up to a mechanical engineer for cars. This is the best career for me because I want to achieve my dream of one day building my own car. Also, I love taking things apart, learning from them and finding a way to make them better and I want to be financial stable enough to have a family and not worry about money. In this essay I will provide an in depth description of my major, give explanation for my reasons and I will tell you about how I will succeed in both my major and my career.
Some general information about my major is the chairman for the major of mechanical engineering technology is professor Sidi Bari. Quoted from the city tech college catalog the major provides “ a solid foundation in the scientific and mathematical principles”, this means that you study the things necessary to be able to work in the range of careers that require this education. Some general information about the career in mechanical engineering technicians are “the median pay is $51,980 per year, the level of education required is an associate’s degree level of education and the work experience required is none”(united states par 3). In my major I study in developing my creative design as well as problem solving skills. One specific thing which I want to do in my studies and what I am currently learning how to do know is how to read manufacturing drawings and make the object I am reading. Some career options that I have with my education are assistant mechanical engineers, engineering research assistants,
assistant mechanical designers, junior CNC operator/programmers,
manufacturing technicians, and quality technicians.
A mechanical engineer draws up the design for cars engines, sometimes generators basically anything mechanical, anything that involves the moving of many complex moving parts to have an outcome of motion. I want to work with cars because it has always been my interest to build my own one day. It’s my own personal goal build something as complex, but an ecofriendly car one powered by electricity but not recharged by power that comes from city power that pollutes the air and destroys the environment, but from my own self-generating power. So basically free energy for a car which could be very helpful for when I start to use a car for everyday life. The type of car I would like to build is a Ford focus 2016 electric model. According to the ford website “ the battery can recharge with the friction from the brakes and also can come with a 240volt/30 amp charge station”(ford par 7), which is the amount I plan on using for my charger. The estimated amount of money I would need to complete all of this would be about fifteen thousand to twenty thousand dollars and around 5 months to build maybe less. This is a life goal that I truly hope to achieve one day for a better world.
Ever since I was young I was extremely curios with things that involves mechanics. Ever since I looked under the hood of a car my mind seemed interested in the fact that all of that complex machinery made that car move, play music, use electricity and cool its self down all at one time. My mind would explode with so many questions, estimations, predictions and answers that I would consciously lose track of what I was thinking about. To this very day I always was interested in complex machinery like a car engine. A quote from Brain Rules states that “We never out grow the desire to know”(medina 252). My curiosity for complex machinery is a great example of that very quote. It also has to do with the fact that I grew up breaking things apart and putting them back together. As humans we were born to learn more and more and pay attention to the things that are around our environment that either interest us or put us in danger. Hence the reason why I was paying so much attention to that engine.
When I was born my mother had no job and the only person working was my father, they both didn’t have a high school diploma or a GED so finding a job let alone a paying job was difficult and the fact that they had to take care of a baby was even more of a difficult task. In addition to that 2 years later my brother was born and it was even more difficult to take care of the family. At the age of 13 I decided that I should be finically stable enough to provide for myself and maybe a family of my own. Based off the chart from the report for wages, incomes and wealth “the monthly budget for a two parent one child household for 2013 is 4,688 dollars this increases by about one thousand with every other child in a family”. For my future I plan on having a household of two parents and three kids that would be around 6,557 dollars a month for the budget which is around a 78,684 thousand dollar budget, according to the occupational outlook handbook for mechanical engineers “the mean pay for a mechanical engineer is 80,580 dollars a year”.(Untied States par 3) So that means that one day I could live that finically stable life that people always dream of having. That is if I continue down the path that I am currently on.
While I am in school I plan on focusing on the difficult classes that I am going to have like I currently am right now. After I graduate college I plan on getting a job as a mechanical engineering technician, or anything else that I need to in order to gain experience needed. Then continuing my education so that one day I can become a mechanical engineer. I believe that something that can distinguish me from most people is my crazy, imaginative, friendly mind. One major milestone that I am going to have is looking for a job in the specific carrier field that i want and will accept me. Another milestone would be finding the right home that is convenient and cost effective for me.

Project 1
My name is Cisco I am around five feet and five inches, I have green eyes, a Mohawk, I like playing handball, going for runs in those cool, but also warm mornings, and swimming in warm water. I also enjoy ice cream especially chocolate chip ice cream. Some of the favorite things I like to do are playing with legos, playing video games, and spending time with friends, family and loved ones. In addition to those interests drawing is the most important part of my life. It allows me to be the most creative and imaginative I can be. Some pivotal points of my drawing experience are the time when I used to play with my Legos, video games, my time with my parents, my best friend, showers and exercising.
When I was younger I used to come home from school everyday and quickly finish my homework. I did this because there was a certain time of day which the sun would hit my room creating a small warm spot to sit on the floor and play with my legos. Doing this allowed me to be able to find a comfortable spot and be able to think creatively even if there was loud music or a lot going on around in my home. You could say that they were the building blocks of my imagination, no pun intended.
Video games are exciting, saddening, difficult, and they can change the way you think about life, its kind of like a book and a movie in one. One thing I can say about video games is that I would never have been the creative person I am today with out it. Back when I was around 6 was when played my first video game and that was Mario. Mario was the first video game character I drew. After that I started seeing new characters and faces as well as backgrounds with different designs and it helped me have new ideas for drawings. It helped me be more of a creative person then I already was.
There was a time when I had a little desk that my parents bout me back when I was in elementary school. It was an art desk for little kids who were starting to learn how to draw accurately or put the right lines at the right length in the right place. One day during the week end I had woken up early I couldn’t go back to sleep so I decided to sit at the desk and start drawing. My father woke up for work and saw that I was struggling with a picture of a lion. He started helping me and told me to try my best and stay focused on the picture while you draw. Those words coming from him is what motivated me to draw and be creative throughout the years.
A very good friend of mine, an old friend, some how in away knows when I’m feeling down or just not into it during the day. He’d always find a way to bring my day up. There are people who get what’s called writers block. Well artist get the block as well, they get to the point where they draw or create things so much that they cant really think of what else to create and could probably end their job as an artist. I have experienced the block first hand a few times in my life. My friend is one of the few things that help me with that no in person, but in my mind. We’ve been friends since childhood which I guess is why he would always help me in a time of need. When I would get my artist block I’d get a little frustrated then go lay down and think about a time when me and my friend would sit at a lunch table and just joke around till class started and then eventually I would fall to sleep and some how wake up with a new idea. This is one of the reasons why I keep my creative side with me and use it in the best way that I can.
Another way that I deal with my lack of creativity is I don’t even think about it, stop for a few hours and go take a really, really long shower some close to about two hours. That is where I get most of my crazy awesome ideas. For example, there was a time when I was thinking of a way to pant my room. I was thinking about it for days and I couldn’t think of the right way to have the room either light colors or cool colors, do I want to be calm or energetic in my room and what design would I want it to be. There were so many concerns that I didn’t come up with an answer for days. Until I decided to go shower while thinking of a an Idea, about an hour later my mind went on autopilot and it said why not mix the colors with an abstract design and I loved the idea so that’s exactly what I did. Now when ever I want to feel energized or calm, I pick a color to look at and it effects the energy I feel through out my body.
The most important way I deal with artist block is probably the one that involves the most work, but is the most helpful out of all of them. This is when I go for a run or do any type of exercise that gets my heart pumping and blood rushing. The reason why I say that it’s the most important is because it gives me my most creative ideas, ideas that not only help me draw but also help me create different ways to motivate me to draw more and more. With running I came up with the idea of taking a shower to help me with my artist block. Later I asked about to a teacher on it and found that it was proven to help as well as sleeping and exercising. This is due to the fact that these three actions increase the dopamine levels that are in the brain, giving us the ability to think critically and that it also distracts our conscious so that our subconscious can work.
These pivotal points in my life are the reason why I am a drawer today and why I have such a creative mind. In the future I don’t want to draw as a job because I feel as if I need to work for me to draw I wont be as motivated as I am now. So I will keep it as a hobby because I enjoy drawing just to draw for the fun of it. I will use my creative mind in the future as a mechanical engineer to better change the world and create an energy source that is helpful to the environment and the people in it. I will also find ways to make things look more fun in this world. For example, there was a time when I was waiting for a train and I saw the train designed with watches, it may have just been a picture, but it still brightened my day. Everyday I think of new things and ideas, as well as new things to create and I am going to be as creative as I can be.
