Week 10 Lecture Notes

Topics

Research Project Check-In

Conclude watching the film adaptation of A Passage to India, paying attention to how the film shows us visually what is taking place in comparison to how the novel shows us textually (description, simile/metaphor, and interiority). Remember that the film is a guide and support for our reading of the novel. The final exam will focus on the novel.

Discuss eyewitness testimony issues.

Discuss connections between A Passage to India and Walt Whitman.

Weekly Memorandum (Write about your reading of the concluding Temple section of the novel A Passage to India. Think about how the trial ended in the middle section titled Caves and the lasting impact of the trial on those involved as described in Temple, in particular, the accused Dr. Aziz and his friend Fielding. Discuss issues that you found with the trial in Caves, too. Connect back to your thinking of legal issues associated with the story, but you can widen your discussion to the effects of the law and its application to the individuals in the story).
