Week 9 Lecture Notes

Topics

Brief Review of Literature Covered So Far

Your Responses to the “Before the Law” parable in Kafka’s The Trial, which you all wrote about the week before last.

Continue watching the film adaptation of A Passage to India, paying attention to how the film shows us visually what is taking place in comparison to how the novel shows us textually (description, simile/metaphor, and interiority). Remember that the film is a guide and support for our reading of the novel. The final exam will focus on the novel.

Weekly Memorandum (write about your reaction to the second part (Caves) of A Passage to India. Keep your remarks focused on the novel and use our viewing of the film as a way to help better understand the characters, setting, and narrative. You will have an opportunity to write about the relationship of the film and novel in a future Weekly Memo assignment).
