NDA’s (Non-disclosure agreements) protect confidential information and trade secrets of the company or organization. The difference between a trade secret and confidential information is the economic value. For example, salary information is confidential information because even though the company wouldn’t want their employees to discuss that outside the company, it doesn’t hold an economic value to them. However, information like marketing strategies is trade secret because it holds an economic value for them and must kept secret. All confidential information for the purpose of an NDA has to be marked as such in the agreement if not it won’t be count as confidential no matter what.
Even though in this internship I didn’t have to sign a confidentiality agreement neither a NDA, I’ve had to sign both for another internship because I would be handling sensitive health information. So this is a step for the organization on making sure they protect this information by us signing and adhering to the agreement.
