HW Day one WEEK 12

The topic I had chosen for unit 2 was basketball. Basketball is my beat, the thing that keeps me going and my one true happy place. The audience I chose is older relatives and the reason I think that my genre of basketball is important and will reach my audience and have them understand what the game of basketball does for me. So far my process has been pretty tough, at first I was going to change my genre from basketball because I thought it would be very hard to explain basketball and why it’s helped me with any of the audience choices. Then I thought, which group do I feel least understands why someone like me loves basketball so much, which audience would I like to help explain my love for the game too. Eventually coming to a conclusion that… older relatives will be my target, the reason is because I’ve had many situations in the past where older relatives would tell me I’m not good enough and I’m too short or I’m too skinny. Little did they know little skinny Brandan is the best hooper in the family.

Moving on from why I chose them, I also thought that a multimodal presentation is the best way for me to get to these older relatives. I would show images to catch their attention, with some writing attached explaining why I chose a specific image. This is multimodal because I’ll be using photos and text hand and hand. Something that was easy was coming up with the multimodal idea. I knew I wanted to show different images to support my case and text to back it up and it was easy coming up with the images I wanted to use… (it’s a secret). One thing that I found pretty difficult is finding my angle, where exactly I want to take this assignment and why is it important that my audience should know about this. I went with the older relatives because first off they are my relatives so they would be interested from the jump, second because of the fact that I want to share my love for the game with a group and they honestly would be the hardest group to go with and I wanted a challenge.

What I learned doing this assignment is that my love for the game of basketball runs deep. Yes, I always knew that I loved basketball but doing an assignment on it and directing it to older relatives is something I would’ve never thought I’d do and it helps me think about why I truly feel so connected to the game. Moving on, my audience will learn exactly what it was that connected me to the game and why I can never let it go. They’ll be able to understand from a younger perspective why basketball means so much to me, the reason I feel this is important is because I’ve had situations where older relatives even in their late 20s wonder why I care about LeBron so much and what exactly LeBron did for me that makes me care about him so much. Well in this assignment I’m going to school these old folks and show that it’s much deeper than just the game, it’s about the love for that game that’s important and the things that you went through before finding the game of basketball.

Week 11 HW Day One

Audience – Fourth Graders

Main Point – Why It’s Important Younger Students don’t hate school and If they do, why should they keep going ?

The Genre is School – The reason is because school is most likely the most important thing going on in these 4th graders lives right now and being miserable and hating it isn’t going to help the time go by faster, in fact it’s the exact opposite.

Plan – My audience will be the 4th graders and the genre will be school. I know at this age most children hate school, they don’t want to be there and they have yet to realize just how important their education really is. I will use different multimodal strategies in order to push my main point that they shouldn’t hate school and why they should keep going. In order to do this i’ll start with Intro images and some explanations, A mad person hating school to relate to the students and explain I was also in the same place as them, a sick person in order to show how I got sick and explaining how it affected my education, a bored person to show how much more boring it was being home sick not doing anything, a sad person to show how sad I got when all my friends were graduating and I wasn’t.

Images – Money, cars, candy and food, a great job, a great family, most importantly no school!

These images will grab the kids attention and show that they can have whatever they want if they just keep going and not give up.

Schedule –

Day one – begin grabbing images that relate and start creating the slides and explanations for the images.

Day two – start creating the story so I can grab their attention and have them hooked on my story to then relate it back to them.

Day three – combine the images and writing together.

Day four – final changes / additions and submission.

Week 10 – Day Two hw

Do you think it’s important to have a multimodal component in writing classes? What does “multimodality” mean to you? And, most importantly, what are your specific plans for Unit 3 (Due Day 1 Week 15). How do you think the multimodal component will help you reach your audience?

I believe it is important to have a multimodal component in writing. I’ve done a multimodal presentation in my english class last semester and it really helped my research skills. I was able to go find much different type of evidence, photos, articles, and videos. It just helps you become a better researcher in my opinion. Multimodality to me, means all the different ways of showcasing an argument, all in one. You know when you make a website they have images some writing to explain and some videos under to show whatever they are talking about more in depth, that to me is multimodality because u (Hi!  Please spell out the word You! 🙂 ) are using all the different ways of showcasing evidence and arguments to back up your claim while also showing imagery to simplify it. my (use capital letters) plans for unit 3 is to focus on an audience of will be 4th graders and my genre is school. I’m going to help these 4th graders to like school better or at least be able to tolerate it. The multimodal component will help me because I already have images in mind to keep them entertained and different things to say to them in order to make them be in awe. Also I just will provide the right amount of imagery and words and videos that will just make them excited to finish school while also telling them my story.
