I have always been dedicated to my health, more specifically my oral health. As a young girl, my father suffered from periodontal disease and severe tooth decay resulting in him receiving a full set of dentures. This experience left a lasting impression of the importance of dental care and the severity of the consequences when it is neglected. I always wished there was some way I could have helped him because I saw how much it affected him physically and emotionally. Fast forward to about five years ago, I began to crave more meaningful work and a “normal” schedule. When I was at my dentists’ office for my 6 month cleaning, it dawned on me how much I have always looked forward to going to the dentist and I would love to be doing what my hygienist is: promoting oral health, educating patients about the importance and skills needed to maintain it, and utilizing hands-on skills to improve the lives of individuals and the community as a whole.
When I expressed my new found dream to friends and family, I was told countless accounts about their dreadful experiences in the dental chair and they all resonated deeply within me. This has fueled my passion even more, it has driven me to want to change the narrative surrounding dental care. I want to provide care that is more approachable and compassionate, and less judgemental and intimidating. I am committed to ensuring that every individual who sits in my dental chair feels heard, valued, and empowered so they are confident in their ability to prioritize and maintain their oral health.
