JLJames was a creative service provider as a commercial photographer here in New York City.  When he came to visit our session, he told us about his career path and a bit of what he did. He was an entrepreneur, created his business and brand from the ground up. During that time he was able to take advantage of the digital photography business because it was still fairly new to the creative industry. He developed business skills and  earned a name for himself by producing quality work.

Unfortunately in 2007 he had an eye surgery that pretty much forced him to look for another job and re-invent himself. People would look at that as something super unfortunate but everything happens for a reason right. He basically had a redo button and was able to be what ever he wanted, which is pretty cool to me. He didn’t just allow himself to be stuck with what life threw at him but overcame this obstacle. James Levin is a people person, and through his realization of this decided to make a career as a career coach (Job search therapy).

Through his time with us he expressed how he transitioned from being self employed to now having to search for another job. After all this is a realistic event that can happen to many people. So how to resell yourself, how to gain the trust of the people you work for; it was good work ethic and doing what ever task that is asked of you to the best of your ability. People are always watching you and evaluating you. In the work world regardless of what it is if you do things to the same quality as you would for your own business you will gain connections that can lead to upward mobility in your career. At the end of the day its really about who you know, and what they think about you. You have to keep moving forward, the creative field is always evolving.  We can choose to be stuck and left behind or to constantly evolve and keep going.
