A database mystery!
Introduction
You arrive on campus in the morning on graduation day to find administrators and campus staff in a panic. A large number of diplomas—which were to be bestowed on graduates at the afternoon’s ceremony—have gone missing. Foul play is suspected, but who would steal diplomas? And why?
“We need your help!” the dean cries. “There’s no time to lose! The graduation ceremony is soon and it can’t start unless we find those diplomas!” You immediately snap into action. You call three friends from your databases class to help you collect and analyze evidence to crack the case of the missing diplomas.
Here is some information about your friends:
| Name | Pronouns | Major | Strengths | Hobbies |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Annie Alvarez | She/her | Computer Science | Debugging computer code | Anime, drawing |
| Burhan Brahim | He/him | Biomedical Informatics | Leadership, speaks multiple languages | Throwing parties, making friends at the gym |
| Chris Chen | They/them | Applied Math | Creative problem solving, deep analytical thinking | Video game development |
In order to solve the mystery, you will play a game by completing Levels 1 to 7 of this module. In each level, you and your friends will analyze evidence contained in tables like the one above. As you progress through the levels, you will solve interactive problems to eliminate suspects.
Each time you reload a page, you’ll get a slightly different version of the problem. Make sure to keep track of which suspects you are eliminating at each level by writing them down as you go so that you have only one suspect remaining at the very end!
Good luck!
