Assignment 7- Form and Space
In this section, we look at 3 dimensional form, different from shape but created by bringing depth to flat shapes, AND the space they occupy.
- Practice sketching, 1-2 pages, sketch paper. Geometric objects, from Google resources and from observation.
- See Resources in OPen Lab for Student examples.
- Adobe Illustrator, using the 3D and Extrude and Revolve tools, experimenting first and then designing one or two pages of forms into a composition.
- Â Play page experimenting with turning shapes into forms, using:
- Shape tool, line tool, brush tools
- Effects-3D-Extrude
- Press Preview, use blue cube to turn object, more options to change color etc.
- Design a composition utilizing Design Principles: Some options include:
- *Repetition and Variation – choose 1-3 types of forms, repeat and make changes in SCALE (small to large to create depth in SPACE), and
- COLOR variations; to add depth change INTENSITY OR VALUE (such as softer hues when forms recede in space, bolder when advancing forward)
- Movement/Rhythm/Rotation: experiment with making your form rotate in space, using blue cube in Extrude window to keep turning a form; spinning, falling, stacking, turning, etc to create a sequence on the page.
- Can try Isometric grid to develop objects
- Â Play page experimenting with turning shapes into forms, using:
- part two–DRAWING – CHALLENGE YOURSELVES
- MAKE drawing 9″X12″ on BRISTOL. Use Wire frame and solid shading directly from you Illustrator forms. You can edit or change composition.
- Practice Wire frame (transparency approach, inside lines) and shading techniques. HAVE FUN!
MAKE SURE TO VIEW SOME OF YOUR ILLUSTRATOR FORMS IN WIRE FRAME MODE Â IN ORDER TO BETTER SEE WITHIN THE FORMS FOR TRUE UNDERSTANDING
