Yang Liu
Technical Designer, Sea New York
Email: yang@sea-ny.com
Dear Yang Liu:
I am writing in efforts to express my interest in the internship position of Design & Production Intern at Sea New York which I saw on September 30th on the Free Fashion Internships website. As a dedicated and self-motivated retail professional, with a keen eye for design trends, I am positioned to significantly contribute to Sea New York’s goals in this role. I would like to begin by stating that as one of your requirements for this position was the need for academic credit, this is one of the many requirements that I can fulfill as a current undergraduate student given the opportunity to work at Sea.
In my current pursuit of a baccalaureate degree in Business and Technology of Fashion from New York City College of Technology, City University of NY—as well as in the numerous retail positions I have held at cooperations —I have amassed hands-on experience in evaluating fashion trends and customer needs. I have also developed a variety of skills including areas of verbal and written communication skills and strong attention to detail. I am scheduled to obtain my degree in January of 2021.
As a sales associate and stocker at Walmart I learned an abundance of visual merchandising strategies through modifying floor layouts and changing endcap and PDQ displays. As an associate at Boltons my visual merchandising skills were improved though my responsibilities of producing window and interior displays, as well as assisting with visual floor plans. The skills developed at these companies have prepared me for any tasks Sea may have for me in helping promote the brand image and/or merchandise. As a specialist at Forever 21 a major responsibility included setting up the store in an appealing and eye-catching way in order to curate sales. As a luxury fashion brand I am sure that this too is very important at Sea.
During my college career I have had to attend an array of workshops and networking industry related events which I believe will help me with the task of communicating with your factories and vendors in the garment district. I also took a Textiles class which will make organizing and sourcing fabrics/trims for your collection a piece of cake. I possess knowledge in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, etc.), so recoloring prints will not be an issue either. I am also well equipped with most social media sites, included but not limited to, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, SnapChat and Facebook. Being highly familiar with all aspects of each application streaming, publishing, editing, advertising and more through these sites come as second nature.
I am confident that these attributes, along with my strong enthusiasm for fashion and my expertise in general administrative tasks and communication, will enable me to excel in this position. I do not have any prior internship or luxury fashion brand experience. However, I am certain that given the opportunity, my determination and keen interest in learning will make me a great asset to your team. The chance to offer more insight into my qualifications would be most welcome and appreciated.
I look forward to discussing this opportunity with you further.
With Regards,
