Reflection #3

Think about a time when you joined a new group activity (maybe a team, religious retreat, club, or workplace).

  • How did you feel when you first joined?
  • Do you recall a moment when you felt like you were part of the group?
  • What benefits did you get from participation in the group?
  • What can you do to help yourself feel like part of a group at City Tech?

When I first joined a new club or had a group project I was nervous at first. The hardest part was gaining the trusts of my classmates and have them listen to my instructions on how to accomplish the project. It all worked out in our favor instead of mines, we passed the assignment the professor gave us. I fell apart of the CT 101 group, the professor is amazing and the assistant as well. My classmates all have input from their prior experiences and it all works out to a cumulative effect and work completion for us. I learned a lot from the group discussions, as far as more resources I can use while attending Citytech, and how to navigate my way throughout the website to find these resources. Plus, speaking to classmates will help greatly for future references to classwork. To feel like apart of City Tech, I can join some of the clubs that are offered in the college. Plus attend some of the meetings and groups that have activities to build a relations between students and professors, strengthening the mindset of students in whole.

When I first joined a new club I felt nervous because I met some new people. A moment where I felt like i was part of the group was when we all were giving ideas for a club fair and they used my idea and gave me credit for it. Benefits that i got from participating in this club is I made new friends and gained some skills while there. In order for me to feel like part of a group at citytech is to join clubs.

When I first joined the dance group I’m in now, islet out of place. My parents had joined first and then their kids, including me, followed. It was hard to grasp in the beginning. The complicated steps, the fast paced music, and talking to those I didn’t know, but it all changed o.n the day we performed for the Virgin Mary’s birthday, December 12th. That was my first show and hearing the applause and seeing everyone in the audience made it all worth it That was 10 years ago now and I still look back and wonder how my life would’ve been if I hadn’t joined dance. Without dance, I wouldn’t have met all these impactful people in my life. They are all so very important to me and have made em the person I am now. With NYCCT I believe I just need to put myself out there and try all there is to offer here for me to feel part of a group. While I don’t feel “lonely”, I do believe that having a group or peers I can connect with would make It a better atmosphere for me.

My lab course consists of many group work. I felt a little uncomfortable because I didn’t really recognize anyone and if my group would remain focused enough to complete the assignment. The benefits you receive from group work is you can confer with each other if you are ever stuck or confused. At times, you are able to split up and have each person/pair work on one thing to help ease the workload. To help myself feel like a a part of a group at City Tech, I can probably build relationships with a professor or perhaps get to know other students from my classes that I have yet to talk to, to gain insights on how they think and work to benefit me.
