Capstone Projects & Professional Activities

Interning two semesters at the Arab American Association of New York allowed me to make assessments on the services provided and find out what was needed. During spring 2015, I started my exploration and assessment and observed that there was no career or employment developmental program. Arab female students were asking about this service for a while. The agency offers an adult education program in which students can learn ESL and be prepared to take the naturalization exam. Most of the female students attend the AWAL group, Arab Women Advocacy Leadership. So, together with the AWAL leader and another intern we did facilitate the 1st Career Development workshop, twice in fact, to start implementing little by little the career or employment supported services. We helped students to create their own resumes and we did mock interviews to  prepare students for the interview process. Unfortunately, this project could not be taken to the next level this semester due to changes made in the organization and the adult education program. However, I continued facilitating two groups of around 8 to 10 Arab women who were consistent with their attendance. I  taught the citizenship class to guide them and prepare them in order to take the naturalization exam.
