Reflection # 10

In today’s class session, we reviewed and discussed graphic symbolism such as icons, indexes, and the meaning behind these visual elements. We even watched an animated film made entirely out of symbols, which was quite unique and bizarre at the same time. The animated short feature was a perfect prime example that you do not need the best effects or skills to create something meaning and impactful for all to understand.

In addition to the graphic symbolism, the professor also gave us a brief introduction about Russia’s history, culture, and folklore. The most interesting part, in my opinion, was Russian architecture and interior design. The landmarks and buildings seem to be one of the most beautiful in the world. However, this presentation was simply an example, properly showing us how we should present our next group presentation for the semester.

After the break, randomly picking the a location for our next group assignment. Group # 2, my team, got Japan. It couldn’t have been a better choice for us. Although, the professor stated that even if we knew about the location’s history, culture, and its people. We should research deeper, beyond surface level information in order to truly understand the place we have to present.

Overall, today’s class session was immensely informative, but the most important thing is what we can take away from these sessions. This upcoming group project will be our last, so communication is key and crucial if we want to deliver a presentation that best represent what we know and the current state of Japan.
