Hi, my name is Davi-Ann Parasram and I am student here at The New York City College of Technology. Before dental hygiene, I was a sales representative and assistant manager at a Kay Jewelers branch in Queens. Around the time of my promotion to assistant manager, I began my search to return to school for a more fulfilling career. I did not see myself in sales forever. Around this time as well, I decided to get orthodontic treatment for the second time in my life for minor adjustments in my smile. The first time I underwent treatment I was 11 years old, this time was 10 years later and at every appointment I would pay closer attention to the steps of the treatment being provided. Small details of my appointment, such as the tech taking panoramic radiographs, or the assistant refilling rubber band trays, caught my attention in a way that piqued my interest. I never paid any mind to this new found interest, brushed it off as a mere fascination. Although now I know that hygiene and orthodontics are two very different fields in dentistry, I will say, this is where my interest in the Dental field originated. 

A few months into my anticipated 1 year of orthodontic treatment, I hired my first employee as an assistant manager. She was working as a barista at the local Starbucks at the time and she was currently taking prerequisites to apply for the Dental Hygiene program at Hostels College. Soon after her start date, we became good friends. She picked my brain regarding my sales expertise and I picked hers on her journey into dental hygiene. Eventually, I began my own research and decided to return to college at the New York City College of Technology in pursuit to apply to the Dental Hygiene program. Here I am nearly 3 years later, on the brink of graduating from one of the most challenging and rigorous academic programs in NYC. 

This portfolio will highlight my time here in the program. It will give an inside look on some challenging patient cases I have treated. It will also allow you to see who Davi-Ann Parasram is, beyond the paper titled “Resume”.
