Tareen Haque, CUNY Youth Ambassador 2019

Tareen Haque is currently a freshman in the Macaulay Honors College at City College of CUNY, majoring in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. Currently, she is involved in a number of extracurricular activities including Macaulay Green Initiative, a club promoting sustainability, as their Internal Events Coordinator. She is also a research intern, creative director, and social media director at the Center of Advanced Study in Education (CASE). She manages the online platforms for CASE, collects and analyzes data from research, and works on advertising and marketing. She is also working in the City College Biology Department as a resource center monitor and office assistant. During her free time, Tareen enjoys painting and amateur photography. 

Farjana Shati, CUNY Youth Ambassador 2018

Farjana Shati is a senior at New York City College of Technology (City Tech) majoring in Mathematics Education. She grew up in Bangladesh under her parent’s belief that “the purpose of life is to learn.” She was supported and encouraged by them from an early age to pursue an education in STEM; a non-traditional choice for women in their times. She spent her childhood between the US and Bangladesh, and moved to New York in 2012 to pursue higher education. She is an Honors Scholars, Emerging Scholars, and mathematics peer leader at City Tech, and has participated in several research programs at CUNY. Additionally, she participated at the prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) program at National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) – CREST. She has co-authored a research paper in Geoscience and Remote Sensing (to appear in 2018) and has presented her work at several nation and international conference with award-winning posters. Farjana wants to be an educator with a vision “to help students build their confidence and positive attitude towards mathematics and STEM education.” She also aspires to work towards women empowerment by reducing world poverty and gender inequalities.
