Reflection #2

Read the following quote by Dr. Pamela Brown, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs:

Learning is a source of hope for a better future. It requires hard work and sacrifice which can be even more difficult in challenging times. Your time in college is also your opportunity to connect with others, lift your spirit, enrich your life, and develop the skills and knowledge to make a difference in your community.

Some life experiences that has prepend me would be the discipline Ive gathered in high-school, more specifically AP class structure and expectations. In a difficult situation I normally seek help online if possible or problem solve on my own. I will create positive academic habits for myself by separating distractions from academic spaces.

What life experiences have prepared me for college? Back in high school, I always studied hard, but that didn’t mean I would know or understand everything. I learned to stay in the right environment and surround myself with the right people at school, such as classmates who could help me study. We helped each other understand the material in our own ways. I learned that I didn’t need to be perfect; I just needed to do my best to reach my goals.

When I didn’t know or understand something, I would ask for help, either from classmates who were more knowledgeable in the class I was struggling with or, if they couldn’t help me, I would ask the teacher. These experiences have prepared me for college because I know that college will have challenging subjects, and I may not always understand everything right away. I have learned to work hard, communicate with others, ask for help when I need it, and not give up when something is difficult.

Hi everyone, Dr. Brown’s quote reminded me that college is about hope, but it also takes hard work — especially in a challenging field like cybersecurity.

To create positive academic habits this semester, I plan to:

    1. Block study time— 2 hours every day for coding and networking labs so I don’t fall behind

    2. Use City Tech resources— I’ll go to office hours and the tutoring center when I get stuck

    3. Connect with classmates — Studying with others in my major will help me stay motivated and learn faster.

College is my chance to build skills that make a difference, and I’m ready to put in the work. Looking forward to learning with all of you in CT101!

    Hi everyone,

Positive habits, academic or not, are built on consistency, not perfection. Every question asked, every page read, and every challenge confronted is another step towards growth. Over time, it molds your reasoning, the way you think, it becomes a habit. Habits are grown from the roots of your discipline. Every single small effort is a contribution; its essential to shaping habits. Academically, habits are made in the same way.

I will create these habits by staying disciplined, managing my time well, limiting my procrastination and continuing to show up even when learning gets difficult. I know that the small changes and efforts are going to matter in the end.

I was in a situation where I was really struggling with my education, I wanted to give up, because everything I was trying to do to get a better result did not work out. So first, to find a solution for that situation, I step away and change my study strategies, and get myself on a study group, that helped me a lot and specially have my motivation back.

What life experiences have prepared me for college

I believe my high school experience has prepared me a lot for college. I have felt the pressure of exams and the study hours. I have also had to advocate for myself a lot during my junior year as it was a time where I needed help the most. Highschool also prepared me because I know how it feels to burn out and when to ask for help. Highschool has also prepared me by showing me how it feels when i don’t give it my all.
