Reflection #6

Think about a time when you joined a new group activity (maybe a team, religious retreat, club, or workplace).

  • How did you feel when you first joined?
  • Do you recall a moment when you felt like you were part of the group?
  • What benefits did you get from participation in the group?
  • What can you do to help yourself feel like part of a group at City Tech?

When I first joined the reading club in high school I was nervous. I felt apart of the group when I was able to choose the next book we read. one benefit I got was being able to expand my mind and read books i would have never thought of reading. To feel part of a group at City Tech I can try to be social and more talkative.

When I was in middle school I joined a club named helping hands. When I joined I felt kinda bored because all they did was talk and plan events. When I started giving them my ideas and tips I felt part of the club because I will see it happen in the events. The best benefit from this club was food and meeting new people. I meet many important people from my neighborhood. By going to class and meeting new people makes me feel apart of City Tech

When first joined a new religious weekend classes, I was shy because I didn’t know anybody that went there. The day I felt like I was part of the group is when we all got in trouble and were punish. I was able to joke about it with my fellow class mates about it. At city tech I can probably be more open

The first time I joined a group was in high school. When joining the group, it made me a sense of belonging and it encouraged me to join more. I was so nervous thinking about what everyone will think of me, but I took that leap of faith and joined a club. The moment when I felt like I was a part of the club was when I became an assistant manager. I benefited as a person and showed to myself that I shouldn’t be afraid. What I can to make me feel a part of city tech will just not be shy, since it’s a new environment, I am shy, and it stops me from achieving the things I want.

I felt awkward the first time joining a group activity. It was awkward because everyone had a someone to buddy up with, and you’re just there. A moment I recall that I felt like I was apart of a group was in high school completing a statistics project, and everyone was putting in their effort to completing it. Benefits I got from participating in the group was getting closer to the members and working on communication skills. What I can do to help myself feel like I’m part of a group at city tech is to join clubs, hopefully that align with my interests/field, and to go on social media to find people that are in similar majors as me and reach out.

In high school, I created and was president of a club where students from any grade could come volunteer in exchange for community service hours. We would also have a lot of events for the club members since we were funded outside the school and had the opportunity to. While it was a little overwhelming to organize everything for the club, it was mostly fun because many of my friends were part of it. It felt nice having my friends support me in this club. I could join a club or volunteer in something at City Tech.

  9. Julia

When I first joined leadership club I was nervous. I felt a part of the group when we all started making conversations and getting to know each other. The benefits I got was getting new friendship. I think that I will consider joining a club now.

When I first joined a new group I remember having a feeling mix of excitement and nervousness becase I didn’t know anyone. There was this one moment that we were laughing and committing to the group that made me realize I was part of the group.Being part of the group has brought me a sense of belonging, support, and friendship. To feel part of a group at City Tech I could try to join clubs, activities, or organization that I find interesting. Also by attending events and reaching out to classmates.

When I first joined a group it felt weird because I had to interact with people that I didn’t know. A moment I felt apart was when we had a team building activity and it brought everyone closer. I became well known around the school everyone liked me. Converse more and make friends.

When I first joined a group I felt shy and nervous because I didn’t know anyone.

When I felt part of a group was when people started to talk to me and inviting me to work with them.

A benefit I get when participating in a group is that I get to grow as a person and I get to learn new things

To help myself feel part of a group at CityTech I could join a club or an activity to help me be more open to others

When I first joined an internship during high school I was nervous but also exicted. I have never been in a workplace type of environment before and I didn’t know what to expect, but I algo looked foward to how it was going to turn out. I felt like I was apart of the group when I got to know my co-workers better and realized most of them were also new to the type of environment and that we were similar in age. I benefited from participating in the group because I got to learn how to work in a professional setting, how to be more resposible and work ethic. I can help myself feel like I am apart of a group in city tech by joining clubs or getting familiar with resources like the student help desk or success center.

  14. Kreny

When I first joined I felt pretty calm about it. A moment where I felt like I was part of the group was when students started inviting me to work with them. The benefits I got from participating in the group were that I made new friends and got a better understanding of the work we were doing. Something I can do to make me feel part of a group at City Tech would be to communicate more with people and not always stay to myself.

  15. Taha

when I first started playing professional soccer, the majority, if not all, of my teammates, were Hispanic and had built a relationship and could communicate better in Spanish with each other this made me feel discriminated against left out .later on i started to pick up on what they were saying and it made training with them easier and thats where i learned communication is key.By going to class and meeting new people makes me feel apart of City Tech

When I was in high school, my school would put on performances in order to celebrate our cultures, the first time I joined was for Caribbean fest with all my friends. I was the only non-Caribbean in the show but because I already was friends with everyone I felt like I was part of the group from day one. I learned a lot of new music and I made a lot of new network connections. In order to feel like that again at city tech I would encourage everyone to start talking more because the more you talk, the more likely people are going to talk to you.

  18. Anaya

When I first joined an apprenticeship at Amazon, I felt nervous and overwhelmed because everything was new, and I wasn’t sure if I’d fit in or even understand any work given. I started feeling like part of the team when I started putting myself out there and speaking more. Even later on it led to helping me present some of the work I did. My supervisor and others on the team said I did a great job and even agreed with my ideas. That moment made me feel like I belonged and could actually accomplish something like this all the time. Being part of this job has taught me valuable skills, gave me confidence in my abilities to communicate, and showed me how to work well with others. At City Tech something I can do to help feel apart of a group is joining study groups, participating in events, or connect with classmates in my major to feel more included.

I remember when I joined a dance group and like lowkey I was intimidated. I know how to dance but I just didn’t feel much comfortable in showing it because I’m not like a professional one that has been doing it since they were 5 like the other kids. However I went in with a mentality of like well I’m here to have fun and if people don’t like it then oh well. I started feeling at ease as each session went on because I got really close to a girl there that was on the same boat as me and eventually everyone started noticing how we’re only there for fun. A benefit I got from the group is that I can go to a professional studio and get classes for free, also a life long friendship and overall improvement of skills. What I can do at city tech to feel part of a group is to have a friendly face and character. Be more outgoing and show people you actually want to be part of the group
