SCAPINO!

In the Fall of 2014, in collaboration with the Department of Entertainment Technology, I directed the play Scapino! on the Voorhees stage. I also adapted Moliere’s script for the City Tech production. In many ways, the project entailed a series of experimental efforts since it was the first interdepartmental collaboration of its kind in over a decade. The production was a great success, which I measure by the emails and texts I receive from the student actors, designers, and technicians to this day. Most of the actors had very little stage experience, yet their deep desire to express themselves shone through their performances. The set was designed by a student who has since gone on to a graduate program in stage design. From this experience, I know that student productions and performance events engender an deep sense of community, which is particularly important at our commuter school.
