On September 18^th 2014 there was an event taking place in the Morrison Hotel Gallery for Fine Art Music Photography in the Apple store in SOHO. The guest speaker there was a guy named Josh Cheuse. This event was the most interesting for me because he was actually a music photographer. With photography being what I want to do as a career, this event was perfect. His career in music photography started in New York nightclubs when he was only a teenager. In his slideshow he actually showed himself as a young kid and said “well it is throwback Thursday, might as well show this.” Throughout the slides he’d show photos of musical icons such as the Beastie Boys, the Clash, Run DMC, and a few more artists. He even met LL Cool Jay as a teen and took photos for him. He’d also give a little back story like how LL Cool Jay’s grandma would tell him to get milk from the store. He was a jokester throughout the whole event. But he then said that photography is something to enjoy. You can always pick up a camera and take shots you think are beautiful and there’s times when you take a shot and you think it’s horrific, but to others it’s something perfect. There are no bad shots, is what he’s trying to say. Someone will find a way to enjoy it for what it is. Josh himself said that he had no talent with the musicians he was working with, but he’d always be there with his camera taking any kind of shot and most shots were the next album covers to the musician’s albums. After the event ended, I walked up to him and told him that I was actually pursuing a career in photography, and Josh said “you’re already there kid.” That truly inspired me as a photographer to be the best I can be.
